ABOUT PAFA

Founded in 1805, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is America's first school and museum of fine arts. Located in center city Philadelphia, PAFA is intimate in scale with a strong sense of community. PAFAs undergraduate degree offerings include a BFA in Studio Art and a coordinated BFA with the University of Pennsylvania. Graduate programs include an MFA and Low-Residency MFA degree, and a Post-Baccalaureate certificate. PAFAs museum has an outstanding collection of American art, and the museum actively collects and exhibits contemporary art, including work in new media. Additionally, PAFA is home to the Brodsky Center, a print and papermaking center focused on the creation of innovative editions by contemporary artists.

POSITION: Youth and Family Programs (YFP) Teaching Artist

PAFA is seeking a Teaching Artist interested in the transformative power of art to engage the Greater Philadelphia youth with art-making classes, both virtually and on-site at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The Teaching Artist will develop and deliver imaginative skill-based art courses providing students with a chance to learn and enhance art skills, create a variety of artwork, and make new friends. The courses are inspired by PAFAs collection, the artists own studio work, and are curated to appeal to all levels and interests of young artists, ages 6-14.

Details of the role are outlined below:

  • Status:Temporary, duration may vary
  • Schedule:The Teaching Artists proposed course will run in 2022-2023. Usually, these courses will run for 5-weeks, one-day per week in-person on Saturdays (10-12) or Virtually, on Zoom on a selected weekday (4-6pm).
  • Compensation:The gross payment for this temporary position is $600 per course. A part-time teaching assistant is available and instructors are provided with necessary art materials for course.
  • Responsibilities:The selected Teaching Artist will develop course curriculum, plan the course utilizing Canvas (syllabus, project outlines and directions, samples, etc.), deliver course to students, communicate with students and families, and provide feedback. The Teaching Artist will also prepare course final exhibition, a virtual art show of the students works.
