Friends of Baseball Coach/Mentor

Friends of Baseball is looking for committed, hardworking Coach/Mentors to work in our after school and summer programs for elementary and middle school youth. The ideal candidates will be sports-oriented, energetic, and most importantly, great with kids! Our youth programs introduce children to the joys of baseball/softball, and provide supportive mentoring from caring adults, with a goal to produce Major League Citizens!
In this part-time position, you will work closely with Friends of Baseball program leadership and serve as the on-site leader of our Full Count after school programs at one to two school or community center sites per term, during the Fall, Winter, Spring, and/or Summer terms depending on your date of hire. This position will work closely with the Director of Baseball Operations and Programs Administrator to implement after-school and/or summer programs with our community partners at schools and community centers.
Summary of Essential Duties
- Serve as Youth Coach/Mentor, providing sports-inspired education and mentorship at Friends of Baseball’s Full Count Youth Programs, serving children ages 6-16
- Implement the Full Count RBI Youth Programs on site, coordinating with our community partners at schools, community centers, and parks.
- Partner with assigned Co-Mentor/Coaches at program sites
- Manage safe sign-in and sign-out of students and communicate incidents according to school and partner site protocols.
- Organize daily program supplies, gear, printouts and curriculum sheets
- Report directly and check in regularly with the Director of Baseball Operations and the Programs Administrator
- Attend Coach/Mentor staff meetings and trainings
Minimum requirements
- 2 years of work or volunteer experience, or a combination of experience, education and/or extracurricular involvement that contributes to ability to perform essential duties
- Comfortable engaging with the public and supporters of an organization in a friendly, affirming, and solution-oriented way
- Strong written or verbal skills
- Familiarity with online platforms (websites, email, Google Apps, etc.)
Preferences
- Enthusiastic, engaged approach to work and looking to learn and grow
- Involvement in or interest in baseball/softball or sports preferred
- Interest in doing good work in the community, serving youth
- Interest and competency working and communicating with diverse communities
Pay/Hours
Part-time Coach/Mentors start at $17 per hour. After-school program coaches typically work 7-15 hours per week. FOB can provide opportunities to work additional hours for interested staff members.
