Job Summary
Applies extensive knowledge of principles, theories, concepts and industry practices, Generally Accepted Accounting Practices and other accounting standards relating to financial accounting.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
• Develops solutions to a variety of complex and unusual problems that require independent judgment and ingenuity to modify procedures standards related to financial accounting. Work is accomplished under general direction and completed work is reviewed for results. • Develops, installs and implements new and revised accounting systems. Creates or modifies system specifications and documentation and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures with management and users. • Analyzes and reconciles financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers. • Directs or coordinates the preparation of federal, state, and local reports and tax returns and represents the Company to federal and state agencies. May coordinate tax return preparation with outside tax preparers and auditors as required. • Directs and prepares formal recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures. • Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement. • Conducts studies and submits recommendations for improving the organization's accounting operation. • Directs or performs the compilation and analysis of financial information and prepares entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions. • Provides technical leadership on large or complex projects. Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment.
Education Requirements
Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Accounting, Finance or another appropriate discipline. A combination of education, experience, and training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Experience Requirements
4-6 or more years related experience and/or training. Experience requirements may be flexible depending upon review of applicants’ specific job history. Public Accounting experience may be weighted heavier than Private Accounting.
Skills & Competencies
• Communicates effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms. • Makes telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and makes formal presentations to small or large groups. • Operates standard office equipment and demonstrates competence in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
Supervision
• Works under general direction. • Guidance as to results expected and complex problem resolution. • Exercises latitude in determining activities and approaches within moderate to wide parameters. • May directly supervise 1-3 Accountants.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
