The advanced practice provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) within the acute care hospital setting works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team. The APP provides comprehensive care in the surgical intensive care unit (SICU).

The SICU in Center City Philadelphia is expanding its APP team. This is an opportunity to join an established APP group and work alongside a distinguished group of trauma and critical care surgeons at an urban academic, Level I regional resource trauma center, burn center, spinal cord injury center, multi organ transplant center and quaternary referral center.

Responsibilities

Rounding on SICU patients and performing critical care consultation services.

Collaborating with residents, fellows, and attending surgeons of multiple surgical subspecialties.

Providing attentive detail to the ongoing and changing needs of the complex critically ill adult.

Ordering and collecting data, and using appropriate assessment techniques to update patient’s plan of care as necessary.

Caring for a complex adult surgical population including blunt and penetrating trauma, burn, solid organ transplant, and complex GI, hepatobiliary, otolaryngology, OBGYN and orthopedic patients.

Independently performing and assisting with bedside procedures, including, but not limited to, central line, arterial line and midline catheter insertion, small bore feeding tube insertion, and bronchoscopy.

Providing continuity of care and being the constant in the SICU amongst a group of rotating residents and fellows. Aiding in adhering to unit based and best practices and helping to provide for the smooth transition of patients into and out of the SICU.

Assisting with data collection, research projects and quality improvement measures.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree

National Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

BLS certification
