External candidates with at least one year of RN experience are eligible for a one-time signing bonus of $10,000 (prorated for part time roles). The bonus will be paid out as a $5,000 gross pay adjustment in the first pay check; the second installment of $5,000 will be paid upon completion of one year (2,080 hours/prorated for part time) of service in the department hired into. Amounts reflect gross pay, prior to applicable tax withholdings and deductions required by law.

The Division of Palliative Medicine at The University of Vermont Medical Center offers a comprehensive approach to person-centered care for patients with serious illness. Our team focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of illness with the ultimate goal to improve quality of life for both the patient and their loved ones. Our team works collaborates with providers from across all specialties and disciplines to ensure clinical excellence.
Our Staff Nurse II will work within the Outpatient Palliative Care setting amongst our Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Fellows, and collaborate with the Outpatient and Inpatient Oncology teams to provide comprehensive care to our patients. This role will provide direct patient care via patient-education visits, post-hospitalization check-ins, triage, and advance care planning discussions.
Our Staff Nurse II role will provide professional nursing care to patients in varying state of health and illness by assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing plan of care. The Staff Nurse II functions as an essential member of nursing and multidisciplinary teams, providing direct patient care, instruction, and preparation for continuing care during and following care transitions. May take charge as operational need allows. The role may also assist with teaching primary palliative care to nurses in the outpatient and inpatient settings.
The onboarding for this position will include UVM Medical Center’s Central Nursing Orientation, rounding with our specialized Inpatient team to foster strong working relationships and the sharing of specialty knowledge, as well as shadowing and other clinical education.
EDUCATION:
Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the State of Vermont required. The University of Vermont Medical Center is moving toward an all Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) workforce. All external candidates hired into, or current employees promoted to, a RN position will be required to obtain their BSN as outlined in the terms of their offer letter.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in Palliative Care or Oncology preferred but not required.
Adaptability and agility
Ability to envision and improve optimal processes and procedures.
Greater than one year RN of experience.
CHPN certified or a demonstrated commitment towards a CHPN certification
