Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports directly to the Head Athletic Trainer under the supervision of the Team Physician and works cooperatively with the coaching and performance staff.
Salary Range: $63,000-70,000
Overview of Responsibilities
The Assistant Athletic Trainer assists in managing a professional soccer club's day-to-day sports medicine operations. The primary duty of the Assistant Athletic Trainer will be overseeing Project 51O (men's Reserve Team) and the Oakland Soul, our pre-professional women's team while assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with the Oakland Roots first team. In this capacity, the Assistant Athletic Trainer provides injury prevention strategies, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for players' medical problems.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs as a Certified Athletic Trainer in managing the health care of players. Health care includes, but is not limited to, first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, developing rehabilitation and prevention programs, and conducting rehabilitation and making medical referrals.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of players and staff while traveling
  • Assist Head ATC with all daily duties needed for training days
  • Assist team injury needs at the training facility while the team is away for games if needed
  • Oversee and act as Head ATC for all Project 510 and Oakland Soul training and games
  • Work with first-team technical staff, Project 510 staff, and Oakland Soul staff to maintain accurate medical records and injury prevention programs in Kitman Labs or related software.
  • Assist with an up-to-date roster of player health and participation records in the club-provided electronic medical record system.
  • Keep the athletic training room and clinic area safe, clean, and organized
  • Help design and implement rehabilitation programs for players from Oakland Roots, Project 510, and Oakland Soul
  • Work with the Head of Performance and Performance Coaches from each team to create and implement injury prevention strategies
  • Assist the Head ATC & Head of Performance during team gym sessions to help modify workouts for injured players
  • Assist the Head ATC, Head of Performance, and Performance Coaches with the planning and execution of on-field football-specific rehabilitation sessions.
  • Comply with all USL medical policies and protocol
  • Comply with OSHA Standards about blood borne pathogens
  • Nights, weekends, and travel required for Project 510/Oakland Soul games
  • Be able to stand and be outside for long periods
  • Maintain liability insurance
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required
Recommended Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Athletic Training.
  • Previous experience working with elite athletes in the team sport setting.
  • Understanding of and application of data-driven rehabilitation
  • Other pertinent certifications related to healthcare and the well-being of athletes
  • Bilingual (Spanish proficiency)
  • Compliant with all CDC-recommended Vaccinations
Essential Qualifications
  • Minimum four (4) year bachelor's degree from a CAATE-approved program or two (2) year entry-level master's degree from a CAATE-approved program.
  • NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Current CPR & AED certification
  • Previous experience working with youth athletes in the team sport setting.
