Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports the academic mission of the University by providing high-quality services to students and other members of the university community. The department has an annual operating budget of over $350M, operates 24/7/365, and oversees a $3B asset portfolio comprising a 7 million sq. ft. physical plant across the campus. In autumn quarter of the 2021-22 academic year, R&DE will return to providing housing for over 13,000 students and dependents, serving meals at 17 dining halls, 12 retail locations, and operating athletic concessions and conference operations. Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

JOB PURPOSE:
Manage complex immediate and long-range capital planning functions in consultation with senior leadership. Develop dynamic capital planning models. Provide strategic and operational level support in managing numerous project funding budgets and models.
CORE DUTIES*:
- Lead strategic planning and analysis for a complex capital planning program with significant business, regulatory and technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise.
- Manage the administration and evaluation of the capital planning program. Oversee the interpretation, implementation and compliance with policies and regulations. Recommend actions and/or resolve complex issues that often span organizational boundaries.
- Represent the capital planning program at the university level and/or to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
- Develop and manage outreach strategy that includes relationship development, communications, and compliance.
- Develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES*:
- Oversee master capital planning processes for R&DE and develop and maintain the long-range major renovations projects plan to support the overall strategic plan.
- Oversee and coordinate the required approval processes for capital projects including internal campus processes.
- Monitor, analyze, forecast, and report on all annual project funding budgets and their drawdown activities.
- Integrate information obtained through facility assessment activities and asset renewal model into the capital planning program.
- Understand and incorporate important living/learning and other housing/dining/hospitality programmatic needs into long-range planning models.
- Contextualize R&DE’s capital plan into the larger university program.
- Develop capital planning strategies for immediate and long-range facility resilience.
- Using expertise in project and capital planning, identify collateral impacts to planning strategies.
- Conduct special initiatives that support facility and capital planning needs.
- Manage planning strategies in support of R&DE’s vision through excellence in facility stewardship.
- Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the execution of this role including through the lens of capital planning.
- Foster relationships and partner with capital planning, campus planning, and other important campus colleagues on projects, initiatives, and planning efforts.
- Utilize a wide range of people skills (soft skills) to build and sustain respectful and collaborative relationships/networks, internal and external to R&DE.

Qualifications - External
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.
- Demonstrate knowledge and abilities in principles and practice of facilities capital planning
- Demonstrate knowledge of budgetary and fiscal responsibilities and principles of financial management.
- Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving.
- Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships
- Relevant subject matter expertise.
- Previous experience in an educational setting with responsibilities for facility or capital planning highly desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally use a telephone.
- Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
