Position Overview: The Assistant Program Manager (Mental Health) is responsible for ensuring staff coverage in a group home setting and assisting the Program Manager/Mental Health in ensuring compliance with health, safety, funding, and program standards. The position provides on-site program management and supervision in compliance with health, safety, funding and program standards. The position also calls for direct support for clients as needed during on-duty hours. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, open to VOA Northern New England staff at this time, that will pay between $23.50 and $25.50 hourly, based on experience and certifications held.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Provide for the care and supervision of consumers including the direct supervision of activities of daily living (e.g., cooking, personal hygiene, transportation)

2. Provide reinforcement of counseling and therapy activities

3. Provide assistance with medications and the performance of tasks delegated by licensed nursing staff and complete documentation as required by policy and procedures

4. Provide direct supervision of the individual’s safety and security through preventative techniques

5. Handle or intervene in crisis situations when necessary as appropriate, which may include contacting the on-call person and/or taking or getting the individual to the emergency room or crisis program

6. Assist in securing and providing transportation

7. Provide rehabilitation, participate in program plan implementation, and provide continuous instruction, supervision, training, and encouragement as outlined in individual service plans

8. Advocate for consumer’s rights and assist in facilitating inclusion in community activities, use of natural supports, social interaction, participation in leisure activities, and development of socially valued behaviors

9. Ensure preparation of meals and encourage consumer involvement with meal planning and preparation as indicated by individual need

10. Arrange repairs and maintenance for equipment, appliances, and vehicles by contracting appropriate personnel and following through to ensure completion

11. Meet with Program Manager/Mental Health on a weekly basis to discuss consumer needs and treatment plans

12. Meet with the Mentor on a monthly basis to discuss consumer needs and treatment plans

13. Assist in interviewing new employees and giving them a tour of the program

14. Assist in checking new employees' work experience

15. Complete preventive maintenance reports as required for facilities and vehicles, including fire drills, vehicle reports, pest control, and related issues

16. Advise supervisor of any special needs or emergencies and recommend follow-up

17. Develop and maintain positive relationships with consumers, families, and other agencies

18. Covers scheduled on-call periods

19. Assist Program Manager/Mental Health with financial management matters as assigned

20. Assist the team with development of each consumer’s program plan, including the completion of initial and on-going assessments

21. Schedule staff to ensure 24-hour coverage as required by contract and policies

22. Model appropriate interactions with consumers

23. Direct staff in the implementation and follow through on consumer service objectives

24. Supervise and provide regular feedback to staff, with Program Manager's guidance and support

25. Participate in and contribute to other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

1. At least two years of relevant college coursework required, bachelor’s degree preferred;

2. At least two years of experience working in a residential setting for people with mental illness is preferred

3. Knowledge of behavioral patterns and issues related to individuals with mental illness, including crisis situations, knowledge of basic homemaking skills, understanding of community resources, implementation of individual treatment plans/goals, and documentation of care is needed

4. Supervisory experience is preferred;

5. Excellent organizational, time and record management skills;

6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required;

7. MHRT 1 certification is preferred.

8. Valid Maine driver’s license and good driving record is required;

9. Excellent computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office.
