POSITION SUMMARY:

The Certified Athletic Trainer will report directly to the overseeing Orthopedic Surgeon and Practice Manager. The Certified Athletic Trainer will assist the physician in providing quality care to patients by accurately determining and communicating the patients current and previous medical condition, utilizing triage skills, taking patients histories, performing initial evaluations, providing instructions on exercise prescriptions and general patient education. The CAT will be responsible to round contracted high schools and colleges to provide care, assistance, and education on injured athletes. The CAT will attend sporting events of contracted high schools and colleges to provide first-line orthopedic care, including triages as needed and providing required higher-level of orthopedic care. Specializing in the management prevention, and recovery of injured athletes, athletic trainer will collaborate with overseeing provider and provide emergency and follow-up care and develop injury prevention and treatment programs for injured athletes.

POSITION SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

1. Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state license guidelines.
2. Attention to detail with injury tracking and documentation.
3. Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families.
4. Act as liaison between primary care physicians, specialists, NYS Department of Education Administration, athletes, and their parents.
5. Provide the coaches and athletic directors with lists of athletes medically eligible to compete under district and state rules and regulations.
6. Hold education sessions for coaches, parents, and athletes on a variety of sports medicine topics.
7. Ability to triage providing orthopedic surgeon, taking patient histories and completing medical records dictations.
8. Able to perform thorough musculoskeletal evaluations with positive presentations to orthopedic surgeon and other specialists.
9. Maintain durable medical equipment fitting and instruction.
10. Provide gait training/crutch fitting, along with education of post-operative wound and dressing care.
11. Ability to perform life and limb saving treatment at the point of care, maintaining ability to treat acute spinal injuries on the field.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training or Health related field.

Experience: Two or more years job related experience preferred but not required.

Licensure: Must possess New York State Athletic Training Licensure. Certification in Basic First Aid and CPR Required.
