The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks applications for seeking a post-doctoral research associate. The Biomedical Engineering department is a vibrant department for performing computational systems biology research https://engineering.virginia.edu/departments/biomedical-engineering .

The successful candidate will be expected to advance development of algorithms and approaches for understanding tyrosine phosphorylation in signaling and cancer. The post-doctoral research associate will be responsible for performing supported and independent research, identifying and establishing collaborations, and mentoring other team members (undergraduate and graduate students). The post-doctoral researcher will be expected to develop open-source computational tools using established approaches in the field and in the lab. The candidate will be expected to establish independent research direct and apply for independent research funding. The researcher may also be responsible for performing necessary molecular or cell biology experiments to complement their computational research.

Qualified candidates must have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering or a related field by the appointment start date (committee-based and graduate department confirmation of finishing degree requirements by start date will be sufficient). A qualified candidate will have a demonstrated record of producing peer-reviewed research, providing mentorship, and working collaboratively. The qualified candidate will have had some prior experiences in computational biology approaches as well as cell and or molecular experimental approach experiences in their related research field. Additionally, the qualified candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and experience of cell signaling and cancer.

This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

This position will remain open until filled, or until August 2023, and review of applications will begin end of May, 2023. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
