Business Need / Purpose of Role:
Purchase merchandise or commodities under the direction of the Purchasing Manager
Objectives & Measurement
Key Responsibilities and Specific Accountabilities: (results this role is expected to accomplish)
Including but not limited to:
- Purchase materials and services that meet established specifications and quality requirements
- Schedule deliveries based on customer requirements, MRP or purchase requisitions
- Negotiate with suppliers and potential suppliers to achieve favorable pricing and delivery
- Interface with other departments and coordinate efforts to procure material
- Read and analyze contracts and drawings
- Work proficiently with various computer programs, including Excel and MRP system
- Familiar with LEAN manufacturing concepts including Kan Ban, time phasing and consignment
- Work with suppliers on quality related issues. Develop alternative sources of supply
- Observe all safety and ISO 9001 requirements.
- Helps to reconcile discrepancies involving suppliers invoices, PO copies and receiving documents to facilitate payment to suppliers in a timely manner
- Communicates, researches, and reconciles problems, issues and questions as they arise to Purchasing Management
- Participates in team decision making, and develops team problem solving communication skills
- Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Six (6) years business courses preferred.
- Six (6) years of material handling, expediting or secretarial experience preferred.
- Five (5) years of clerical / administrative experience.
Language:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts to calculate material requirements, lead-time off sets, economic order quantities, minimum lot quantities.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
The incumbent should have knowledge of the following software: MS Office [fill in application depending on job scope]
Physical Requirements:

Use of eye, hands and finger, coordination to enable the use of office machinery as well as to examine documents, tools, and components.
Specific vision abilities required include; close up vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus. The Associate is required to have good Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication face to face and through automated devices such as the telephone. The Associate frequently is required to stand, walk and sit, and have the ability to move from department to department and attend meetings. The Associate is occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The Associate is required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently life and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. In certain areas of the facility personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, and ear plugs.
