LOCATION: District
PAY RANGE: C4-1 ($20.29 – $28.96 hourly)
CALENDAR: 184 Days (August – May), 8 hr./day
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director, Security & Safe Schools Environments

SUMMARY:
Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, school facilities, and property within the district. Duties include supervising and monitoring student behavior within and outside school buildings, enforcing appropriate student behavior, communicating with students regarding issues and/or behavior, monitoring district campus/facilities safety, assisting school administrators, district security and/or law enforcement in emergency or investigative situations, ensuring safety policies and campus compliance, enforcing and directing safety operations in parking areas and other high traffic locations, issuing parking permits, citations and/or warnings, investigating potential safety issues and/or criminal activities and providing security for campus activities, writing detailed security and safety reports and providing extended security for district activities. This position may require varying work hours and days including evenings and weekends. Overtime may be mandated as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITITES:

  • Monitor student behavior outside the classroom area (e.g., halls, parking lot, and off-campus areas), including enforcing laws related to graffiti, trespassing, assault, drugs, weapons, and disorderly conduct.
  • Conduct routine physical safety and security checks inside schools and on district property including report writing and follow up communication.
  • Counsel students verbally and through written communication regarding behavior.
  • Direct the parking lot and issue parking permits and tickets.
  • Initiate potential safety and criminal investigations to include liaison function with law enforcement, conduct student interviews, written reports and follow up contact with parents, school and district administrators.
  • Provide security for extended learning activities on school campuses.
  • Provide security for athletic events and/or other extracurricular activities outside of school hours including, weekends, evenings, and occasional nights.
  • May assist staff and students during crisis situations, including fire drills, tornado drills and lockdowns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience with high school students or equivalent experience with teenagers.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications required (within first 6 months of employment).
  • Successfully complete safety and security training to include but not limited to investigative writing, emergency management and as deemed necessary to perform the job duties described above.

  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, Director of Security procedures.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Strong common sense, problem solving, and mediation skills.
  • Knowledge of at-risk youth, gangs, and laws related to drugs and alcohol preferred.
  • Ability to respond to hostile situations and intervene in physical altercations.
  • Ability to work with large groups of students, including students with special needs.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule to include evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with computers and office software preferred.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, E-mail, etc. preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to bodily fluids. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate. Frequently required to compare and copy.
