Examination process: In order to be considered for this job, you must take and pass the online examination that measures math skills used in determining eligibility for programs and reading comprehension. After your Merit System application has been submitted, you will be sent a link to access the examination sections-if you meet the minimum qualifications for this job classification.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: You must complete the exam within (3) three days of the closing date, or by no later than midnight, February 8, 2023.

This position starts at $26.24/hour (DOQ) with advancement up to $34.75/hour.

Characteristics of Class:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks related to the rendering of appropriate paraprofessional social services and performs related work as assigned. The work is performed in an office or in the field as required.

Examples of Duties:
Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples, listed in their relative order of importance, include all duties which may be found in positions in this class.

  • Provides staff support for the Health and Human Services Department.
  • Serves as liaison between staff and technical support of state wide databases used.
  • Determines eligibility of clients for health and human services and maintains complete and accurate records on client eligibility by interviewing clients to obtain and verify necessary information.
  • Performs intake and screening duties. May also act as screening team facilitator.
  • Performs licensing and/or negative action of foster homes, adult and child.
  • Reviews case records for completion of required agency forms. May perform social-medical histories.
  • Explains health and human service, income maintenance, and other community programs and services to individuals or groups. Also explaining the application procedures and assist individuals in completing health and human service application forms.
  • Serves as a liaison between work units and providers to ensure greater accuracy and promptness in the transference of reimbursement information.
  • Codes and records receipts and disbursements of funds and reviews and codes agency payment vouchers. Makes contact with community resources as assigned.
  • Responds to initial complaints of clients, informs clients of the right to appeal and of other rights.
  • Performs statistical operations relevant to health and human service program procedures.
  • Assists Social Workers, Social Worker MSW's, Health and Human Services Supervisors, Financial Supervisor, Child Support Supervisor, Public Health Nurses and/or Health and Human Services Director in securing equipment or services. Composes correspondence and constructs reports as needed.
  • Assists Social Workers with coordinating adoptions.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

For Pre-Employment:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass a required background check.
  • Three years of successful clerical experience and/or experience working with the public, or the equivalent.
    OR
  • Two years of successful clerical experience in a public welfare/human service agency.
    OR
  • Two years of experience as a Community Service Aide or similar experience in a private nonprofit agency or other public agency.
    OR
  • Two years of study at an accredited two or four-year college/university or similar institution, with emphasis in the behavioral sciences (at least 23 quarter credits or 16 semester credits).
