Summary

This position supervises a crew responsible for CCTV inspections of sewer mains. Work involves supervising assigned employees; directing the activities of crew to assist with inspection operations, including necessary preparation procedures and operating CCTV inspection equipment and some heavy equipment; ensuring employees adhere to safety requirements; and training personnel. This position performs lead and skilled/semi-skilled
tasks of above average difficulty repair in the Charlotte Water wastewater collection systems; performs pipe inspections including manholes and CCTV; responds to incoming requests for line inspections or in conjunction with preventative maintenance schedules; maintains field equipment in good operating condition by adjusting, cleaning, lubricating, and performing minor repairs; ensures that equipment is stored in a safe and proper manner; responds to inquiries and resolves complaints; and prepares and maintains reports.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directs the activities of assigned employees to assist with inspection operations, including necessary preparation procedures and operating CCTV inspection equipment and some heavy equipment; plans/schedules short-term work.
  • Responds to incoming requests for sewer main inspections.
  • Schedules preventative maintenance.
  • Maintains field equipment in good operating condition by adjusting, cleaning, lubricating, and performing minor repairs, while also ensuring that equipment is stored in a safe and proper manner.
  • Performs pipe inspections including manholes and CCTV inspections.
  • Responds to inquiries and issues; resolves complaints.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate reports and records on assigned work activities.
  • Adheres to company health and safety procedures.
  • Coaches and motivates crew members by communicating needs and expectations through proper training; helps to develop skills improvement plan for employees not meeting standards.
  • Supervises and coordinates work activities of assigned staff; assigns work, monitors status of work, and inspects completed work; participates and provides input in staffing decisions relative to hiring, firing, discipline, and promotional opportunities; evaluates performance; mentors staff; and aids with career development.
  • Trains other personnel.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining closed circuit television equipment for
sewer inspection or maintenance.
  • Knowledge in sewer service laterals and bypass pump installation.
  • Knowledge of proper safety practices and emergency response procedures.
  • Knowledge of customer service methods.
  • Skill in operating small, medium, and heavy equipment and trucks.
  • Skill in planning and scheduling short-term work.
  • Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret topo maps and plans.
  • Ability to maintain records and write reports.
  • Ability to resolve conflict within a team.
  • Ability to maintain effective work relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and
the general public.
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to supervise employees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is heavy work and requires applying up to 20 pounds of force constantly;
applying 30 pounds of force frequently; and exerting up to 100 pounds of force
occasionally to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
balancing, climbing, crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity,
pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, expressing ideas
by spoken word, shouting above noises; visual acuity in date/color/equipment/
inspections, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a work environment that may periodically have unpredicted
requirements or demands. Required working overtime, various shift hours, on-call as
scheduled, and during work-related emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited school.
  • Three (3) years of related work experience, preferably experience operating and maintaining closed circuit television equipment for sewer inspection or maintenance including one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:

  • Requires a valid driver’s licenses.
• Requires a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL – with tanker endorsement) or obtain within one year of hire. • Prefers Pipeline Assessment Certification (PACP).

Salary

$48,873.00 - $54,302.00 Commensurate with Experience
