Position Purpose:
This is a "Specialist" teaching position that serves students in grades 5-8 at a K-12 urban charter school. Assigned classes are 90 minutes in duration. A new schedule starts each quarter with a new group of students and the curriculum starts over. This is considered a "floating" teacher position where the teacher goes from classroom to classroom each period. There are 4 instructional blocks and often specialists are needed to help with cafeteria, arrival or dismissal duty. The teacher will have their desk in an office with all of the other Specialists to use for planning and collaboration when not in class.
The goal of the Character Education Teacher is to encourage the personal growth and development of each student, to foster a sense of personal worth and competence while helping to develop to become college and career ready. SCCS has a highly developed framework for teaching character education starting in Kindergarten and continuing to 12th grade. The teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans, implementing instruction and assessing students using their lesson plans on topics such as career exploration, financial literacy, interpersonal communication skills, conflict resolution, substance abuse prevention, etc. Our character education teachers help students develop age appropriate social and emotional life skills to become successful students in and out of the classroom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaching pro-social and pro-emotional skills to 5th-8th graders to help them develop positive relationships with peers and adults and a positive self-esteem
- Delivering instruction in the classroom using an evidence-based curriculum
- Long-term unit planning and daily lesson planning
- Collaborating with teaching staff
- Integrating feedback into lesson delivery
- Adapting activities for scholars of all ages and abilities
- Maintaining a strong classroom culture that is consistent with our standards and high expectations
- Participating in the life of the school, including student activities and events
- Performs related duties as assigned
