RESPONSIBILITY: Under the direction of the Maintenance/Machine Shop Supervisor, this employee has the full responsibility to install, maintain, and repair machinery, equipment, piping, electrical and electronic systems by performing the following duties.

AUTHORITY: This employee has the authority to direct the helper or helpers assigned to him in their duties and to advise or recommend actions regarding their performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.

2. Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.

3. Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.

4. Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.

5. Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.

6. Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.

7. Repairs and maintains all power trucks.

8. Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as programmable controllers.

9. Sets up and operates machine tools such as drill press, band saw and grinder to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.

10. Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.

11. Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.

12. Helps with training others as needed.

13. Comply with Pager and Call-in Program.

14. May be asked to fill in for Maintenance/Machine Shop Supervisor on occasion.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. This employee must be safety minded, able and willing to understand and follow all written and oral instructions and comply with all company work rules as outlined in the "Discipline Penalty Chart".

2. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements.

3. Availability for overtime work is necessary as long as exercised in accordance with the terms of the contract.

4. Attendance at training sessions when offered will be required.

5. Saturday work may be required. Working on another shift may be required.

6. Must be conscientious and willing to assume responsibility.

JOB RATE AND TRAINING PERIOD:

1. The job rate will be the currently established minimum as shown in Category I in the bargaining agreement.

2. A trainee will enter the training program at .20 cents above base rate and progress to the top rate in 3 month increments of .25 cent increases unless skills and experience warrant a faster progression or lack of same results in removal from the training program.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Be a Certified Fork Lift operator in accordance with OSHA 1910-178(l), and carry a copy of your certification with you.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration.
