Position Description
The Clinic Triage Registered Nurse (RN) will provide professional nursing assessments, prioritize treatments according to the urgency of need, and initiate medical care to patients contacting the clinic.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interviews patient (if possible) and/or family to obtain medical histories and to make an accurate assessment.
  • Initiates diagnostic and therapeutic measures as indicated by nursing best practice, the guidelines of hospital/clinic policies and procedures, standing clinic protocol and scope of practice.
  • Assigns a triage priority based on observations and available information and directs patient to scheduling when appropriate.
  • Recognizes and provides appropriate nursing intervention in emergency situations. Calls for crisis intervention if appropriate.
  • Communicates and acts as liaison with patients, family, and health professionals in a manner that respects confidentiality and dignity.
  • Apply background knowledge of pathophysiology of disease and nursing skill techniques in patient encounters, recognizing and reporting to the provider any potentially emergency and/or critical symptoms.
  • Coordinates the needs of the patient with supporting departments and assists in solving problems related to the welfare of patient and staff.
  • Charts concisely and descriptively according to electronic medical record protocols and procedures and scope of practice.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and departmental matters.
  • Supports and abides by all hospital, departmental and safety policies and procedures.
  • Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission, philosophy and values of Story Medical.
  • Utilizes interpersonal skills to establish and maintain healthy relationships with healthcare providers, co-workers, patients and families.
  • Acknowledge patient’s rights and confidentiality issues.
  • Utilizes professional and tactful communication skills to enhance the image of Story Medical.
  • Attends continuing education programs to improve performance and maintain licensure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing for Registered Nurse.
  • Current Iowa nursing license, in good standing.
  • BCLS certified within 60 days of start date.
  • Mandatory Reporter certification within 90 days of start date.
