TITLE: Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Community Advocate

LOCATION: Seattle / South King County

REPORTS TO: GBVSS Program Manager

DESCRIPTION:

The YWCA of Seattle | King | Snohomish Gender Based Violence Specialized

Services (CSE) Community Advocate will aid adult survivors through providing advocacy which could include, support safety planning and life skills, employment, housing, using a model of best practice trauma informed advocacy with a strength based approach. Providing and culturally relevant services. YWCA Gender Based

Violence Specialized Services are designed to meet the needs of survivors of intersection of gender –based violence domestic violence/sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

This position has a social justice component that will allow for critical thinking around how the external systems influences the work that we are doing through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty.   • A second dose in a two-dose vaccine series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines; or
  • A single-dose vaccine, such as the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the client’s immediate or emergency needs (e.g. food, personal hygiene products, bus tickets, clothes) or items which enhances the client’s stability and self-sufficiency (e.g. trade/employment training classes)
  • Maintain and communicate expertise on the harm, violence and the impact of human trafficking, sexual exploitation and the intersection of gender base violence.
  • Work in partnership with City of Seattle Adult Survivors Collaborative
  • Attend regular scheduled providers and partner meetings to provide updates and establish and strengthen partnerships with Seattle and King County system stakeholders and service providers serving survivors of commercial sexual exploitation
  • Conduct Street Based and Agency Outreach
  • Interfaces with Adult Survivor Collaborative advocates to guide survivors through varies systems to ensure quality and culture relevant services
  • Develops ongoing referral relationships with Survivor- led networks, health care, legal and social service systems
  • Provides education on CSE, and human trafficking to survivors, African

American community groups, and agencies to raise awareness and reach marginalized populations in Seattle and South King County

  • Co-facilitate support groups both in person and virtual
  • Maintains accurate client files and conducts timely data collection and contract reporting
  • Shows demonstrated ability to interact with people of different cultures
  • Implement all work by incorporating the YWCA’s Social Justice Initiative by understanding how racism, sexism, classism, and other oppressions intersect and are embedded in all institutions and systems
  • Provide culturally relevant advocacy and client assistance for survivors of commercial sexual exploitation. Advocacy may include but is not limited to information and referral, intake/assessment/goal planning and case management, co-advocacy with other agencies/social service providers, job/life skills training, education and/or obtaining a GED, health and medical care assistance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty and foster diversity, and social justice advocacy
  • Advocates working with survivors of commercial sexual exploitation are also required to attend an additional 24 hours of training on human trafficking and/or commercial sexual exploitation and Gender based Violence
  • Ability to respond to toll-free talk and text line as assigned and work some evenings.
  • Experience working with population that are furthest from opportunities.

(Specifically, women of color)

  • One year of experience in working with survivors of the sex trade, domestic violence, sexual assault and other vulnerable population
  • Human services or related field and at least one year of direct social service experience; or translatable skills considered in lieu of degree.
  • Must have strong knowledge and experience in maintaining confidentiality
  • Strong orientation toward advocacy, with ability to navigate multiple systems

(i.e., human services, health, law enforcement etc.)

  • Core competencies expected: discernment/judgment, professional boundaries, organizational understanding, strong communication both oral and written,
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and outlook, and cellphone text
  • Knowledge of community resources, confidence to handle complicated situations
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to make sound judgment without direct supervision
  • Must maintain 25 hours of continued education hours on advocacy based

GBVSS.

  • Vehicle with valid WSDL; candidate must be able to travel independently between multiple work site within a day

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a minimum of twenty hours of initial basic training that covers: advocacy-based counseling; history of domestic violence; confidentiality and ethics; client safety planning, and crisis intervention; providing services and advocacy to individuals from diverse communities; policies and procedures for GBVSS service; and referrals and shelter resident transfer

RATE, HOURS, BENEFITS

  • $23.00hr
  • Full time, 40 hours per week, days may vary which includes some evening s and weekends
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification: Non-exempt
