Shangri-La Construction (SLC) is looking for a Construction Project Engineer to join our team in our Los Angeles office and at jobsites throughout the region. Projects range from affordable housing hotel conversions to ground-up residential and hospitality work. This person will support project management and field staff in the planning, organizing, management, evaluation, and assessment of information necessary to construct projects safely, within budget, on schedule, and to the specified quality.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent communication, time-management, and problem-solving abilities who thrives in fast-paced environments.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of cost estimates
  • Review plans and other technical documents
  • Coordinate jobsite visits and set up
  • Monitor costs and project progress
  • Write, distribute, coordinate, review, and track RFI’s - review for potential, cost or schedule impacts
  • Write purchase orders, subcontracts, and maintain buyout and contract logs
  • Assist the project manager/superintendent in creating, updating, and distributing the project schedule
  • Review specifications and identify all required submittals, prepare submittal schedule, and communicate scope changes
  • Review, distribute, and track submittals for project document compliance
  • Assist project manager/owner in getting building permits for the project
  • Understand appropriate building codes/regulations
  • Coordinate project change-order management, creation and negotiation
  • Conduct and document weekly project owner’s meetings/decisions
  • Assist the project team with site safety documentation and coordination
  • Assist project accountant with monthly subcontractor billings and pay applications
  • Maintain/update project records/documentation
  • Assist the project team with closeout of the project
  • Assist project manager with other assigned tasks

Skills and Expertise:

  • Computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point) and other applicable software programs - experience with Procore a plus
  • Ability to read and comprehend plans and specifications
  • Basic knowledge of construction management functions including estimating, contracts, permits, change management, scheduling/sequencing, logistics, quality, safety, accounting, closeout, and document control

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 1+ years experience in related field preferred
  • Advanced training/certifications/degree preferred
