Summary of position:

Primary Function: Within authorized authority, and recommendation to the Centralized Lending Manager, when necessary, examines, evaluates, and authorizes approval of borrower's applications for credit or extension of lines of credit, or consumer credit loans, by performing the following duties. Must be a decision-maker with a tolerance for risk, while understanding the lending guidelines and regulations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes creditworthiness of prospective and current members for all consumer loan types (Home Equity, Vehicle, Unsecured, Credit Card). Examines credit history using credit agency tools and evaluates potential risks.
  • Works with completed loan applications provided by loan interviewers to make decisions on extending credit
  • Reviews applicant financial status, credit, and collateral evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan and approves or denies within the Credit Union’s policies. Clearly communicates loan decision information to the loan originators or processors for the completion of the loan
  • Corresponds/converses with interviewers frequently to resolve questions regarding application information provided, and further delve into the member’s situation to assist in being able to grant credit to the member
  • Has a tolerance for risk while appreciating the policy guidelines and requirements set out in regulation
  • Analyzes potential cross-sale lending opportunities involved in each lending situation to further assist the borrower as well as increase the credit union's lending portfolio
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent or two years or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge:

  • Strong level of knowledge in consumer lending underwriting, regulations and compliance.

Mental Demands

  • The mental characteristics necessary to competently perform this job involve the occasional need to be resourceful, perceptive, and persuasive in solving problems; the frequent need to take initiative and instruct; and the continuous need to concentrate, exercise judgment and patience in dealing with employees and members. Must be a quick, out-of-the-box thinker with a tolerance for risk

Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as credit bureau reports, debt to income ratio reports, policy and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with borrowers and other employees of credit union
  • Must have an analytical mind with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where guidelines are available but extensive individual evaluation is required. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written form, including but not limited to loan policy, procedural manuals, and compliance with appropriate
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and tools such as fax machine, telephones, photocopier, personal computer, and utilize appropriate versions of current computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • High level of communication, both oral and written.
  • Courtesy, tact, confidentiality and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. This work involves personal contact with others inside and outside of the organization, as well as all levels of management.

Salary Range:

$24.31 - $29.17

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Ability to lift items weighing 10 pounds are required.

Work Environment:
