Job Description
Conducts a therapeutic recreation program within our campuses to facilitate habilitation of the physically and mentally disabled. The Recreation Therapist directs our resident participation in selected activities such as games, social activities, sports, or music to create an atmosphere of sociability, to provide a means of creative expression and to facilitate the learning skills for recreating during their stay and after discharge in the community. Creates an environment that allows the patient to explore his/her own potential, cultivate positive morale and minimize distress of illness.

Role and Responsibilities

• Ensure that residents’ immediate needs for safety are practiced. Assist residents in a manner that fosters independent functioning and promotes customer satisfaction on the part of the resident, family, funders, and employer.

• Maintain an appropriate, respectful, and professional relationship with residents.

• Support team decisions consistently and respond with appropriate interventions as described in residents’ service plans and protocols.

• Create, advertise, and coordinate on campus, off campus, one on one, and facility wide activities.

• Monitor and document resident productivity, performance, and participation.

• Provide Therapeutic Recreation programming

• Facilitate engaging activities and events to increase residents’ quality of life.

• Complete all documentation and reports for assigned residents in a timely and professional manner.

• Adherence to HIPAA and CMH regulations

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Valid Michigan driver’s license and acceptable driving record

• Experience in the ASD and DD population preferred.

• Must have a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certificate

• Commitment to Eisenhower Center commitment statement

• Excellent communication skills

• Ability to give directives in a positive, effective manner, as well as follow directives

• Good problem solving, communication (both written and verbal), and organizational skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $47,000.00 - $54,000.00 per year
