Job description
ABOUT THE COMPANY
We're an eCommerce company located in Scottsdale that offers thousands of cool, unusual, and interesting aviation-related products to all kinds of pilots (recreational, corporate, airline, military) and aviation enthusiasts. But you don't have to be a pilot to work here or be a customer. Most of our crew members have no prior aviation experience. However, once you join our team, you'll soon be able to confidently recite the phonetic alphabet (alpha, bravo, charlie, delta, what's next?), describe the difference between two ADS-B receivers, and recommend the best headset for a helicopter pilot.
We've been around for 23 years and are widely respected by our customers, partners, and vendors as a leading company in our industry.
ABOUT OUR TEAM:
We're a small team of casual people who love donuts, pizza, and getting orders to customers as fast as possible. We're not "corporate" or very structured. It's definitely not a "call center" environment. There are no phone scripts and you're not on a stopwatch when the phone rings. This isn't a sales gig. You'll recommend products to customers that need help but there is no pressure on you or the customer to "close a sale".
WHAT WILL YOU DO ALL DAY?
- Answer inbound calls. Sometimes they'll be back-to-back (hello Monday morning!). Sometimes you'll have 20 minutes between calls. Most of the calls are helping people place orders, answer product questions, give order status, and listen to them vent if necessary.
- Help solve problems. Did we ship the incorrect item? How do we redirect a package to a customer that shipped it to the wrong address? How to deal with a lost package heading to South Africa?
- In between other things, you'll spend time learning about current and new products. A lot of this learning is self-directed so it will be up to you to read, watch, and touch the products we offer to become an expert for our customers.
- Run out to the warehouse to figure out if a Flight Outfitters flashlight includes a lanyard since there is nothing about it in the product description (or any other random product-related question that you will field).
- Sometimes you'll jump on email support or live chat but we have a dedicated team that handles most of the writing so you're off the hook for most of these.
KEY TRAITS THAT WE HOPE YOU HAVE
- Focus and attention to detail: the ability to stay on task and razor-sharp attention to detail. Seriously. We know a lot of job descriptions have something like this but it really can't be underestimated here.
- Excellent computer and typing skills. Our internal systems are homegrown and not something you have EVER used before. We find that people figure out the difference between a skyBeacon and a tailBeacon quicker than how to run a split payment and batch an order on our intranet. It's not hard, it just takes some time and computer savvy to learn.
- You are customer service oriented with tons of patience.
- You're not afraid to ask questions to get to the root of the problem. You'll run into a lot of products and new industry terms. You don't need to be an expert right away, you just need to know how to ask the right questions and find the right answers.
- You can maintain an upbeat, positive attitude. Some days, and some calls, suck. Step way, go walk around the warehouse, and come back with a smile on your face. The next call will be a delight!
PERKS
- Casual dress code. You can really wear just about anything you want here. Wear jeans and sneakers or cat ears and a tail, we don’t care. We just ask that you leave open-toed shoes and perfume/cologne at home. The former for safety in the warehouse and the latter because it makes us sneeze and our cotton products soak up odors easily. We don’t want our customers complaining that they got an order that smells like Old Spice or Chanel.
- Heavily discounted merchandise on the stuff we sell. Trust us, EVERYONE finds something that they must have once they start working here.
- Weekends off! This is Monday through Friday, 8 to 5 (or 7 to 4 if that works better for you). No nights, no weekends.
- 401k with 5% company match.
- Health and dental insurance plan.
- A couple of weeks of paid time off for you to recharge and paid holidays
- A covered spot for your car if you're here early enough - a top benefit on those 117° days!
- Free donuts and cookies on random days or when James seems to be in a cranky mood.
WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO GET AN INTERVIEW?
- The number one way to get an interview is to send us a quick note/cover letter telling us why you're the right person for this job. Or, tell us why you want to work here. Or, send us a pilot joke. Trust us, we ALWAYS read the cover letters before your resume. They are usually more fun and interesting.
- Only make contact through Indeed. Please do NOT call or email us directly us before we schedule an interview. Definitely do not show up at our office without an appointment (our building is closed to visitors right now).
