SUMMARY:
The Development Manager (DM) reports to the Director of Development (DOD), and plays a key role in executing and participating in comprehensive fundraising activities and campaigns across the Foundation and the Institute. The individual is responsible for an annual fundraising goal of $250K+, and will have strategic objectives to expand program effectiveness, focusing on identifying, cultivating and stewarding prospects and donors to support Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children's fundraising.

The Development Manager is responsible for tracking and managing information and strategies pertaining to all aspects of fundraising programs, to include timely and accurate documentation into the database of contacts, actions, conversations with donors, volunteers, board members, financial advisors, etc.

The individual works in concert with the DOD and the Assistant Vice President (AVP) to provide project management, to include fundraising support, for Foundation and Institute programs. The DM develops and manages relationships with prospects and donors for the overall Foundation fundraising programs, such as annual giving, direct mail, sponsorships, events, grateful patient/parent programs.

In concert with the DOD and AVP, the DM assists and supports with LuskinOIC donor solicitations, communications, Major Gift Program, Grateful Parent/Prospect [Review] Program, and Patient of Interest (POI) Program.

The Development Manager will assist the DOD with the management of the multiple logistics and administrative tasks in support of event fundraising, event sponsorships, signature events, one-time events and other events as assigned.

The individual is committed to promoting all opportunities for securing financial resources and human capital resources for LuskinOIC.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages a personal prospect/donor portfolio with annual goals for personal visits, solicitations, and giving outcomes.
  • Increases donor renewals and upgrades by using state-of-the art Annual Giving techniques and, with the support of Operations, analytics in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of LuskinOIC donors.
  • Works jointly with Marketing | Communications | Public Affairs, Events, Volunteers & Outreach, and Operations to further develop LuskinOIC’s online giving.
  • Determines Annual Giving [prospect and donor] print, email, and online communications strategies, tactics, messaging, vehicles and collateral in collaboration with Marketing | Communications | Public Affairs and the DOD and Director of Operations & Stewardship (DOS). Also provides guidance for the preparation of mail lists and reports by Operations.
  • In collaboration with the DOD, manages the Patient Ambassador Program, to include stewardship of current Ambassadors, and identifying new patients and securing stories, releases, and appropriate deployment.
  • Establishes and leads a cause marketing program in conjunction with Marketing | Communications | Public Affairs and DOD.
  • On behalf of the Foundation, establishes, cultivates and maintains personal contact and relationships with planned giving, corporate, marketing and executive officers and attorneys and trustees.
  • Arranges corporate meetings to secure event sponsorships.
  • Responsible to assist in the management and planning of the annual special events such as Stand for Kids Gala, Swing for Kids Golf Tournament, Toys & Joy Holiday Party and other events as assigned.
  • Responsible to ensure financial fundraising goals are met per event, budgets are adhered to, manage invitation lists and secure sponsorships.
  • Responsible to execute design and preparation/production of event and outreach collaterals in collaboration with the DOD.
  • Assist DOD with the arrangement of food and beverage, order supplies and audiovisual equipment, make any necessary travel arrangements, order event
signage and ensure appropriate decor (floral arrangements, linens, color schemes, etc.) to meet the quality expectations of the LuskinOIC Foundation.

  • In conjunction with the DOD, propose new ideas to improve the event planning and implementation process.
  • Keep track of event finances including check requests, invoicing, reporting and adhere to the budget for each event.
  • Assist with the execution of a grateful parent program (GPP), working to add POI’s (Patient of Interest) to portfolio.
OTHER DUTIES:
  • Responsible to serve as the point of contact for smaller events as assigned.
  • Develop, manage, maintain and utilize the Raiser's Edge event module in the database for all special events.
  • Develop and administer a system for managing in-kind donations for events.
  • Serves as back-up to the Executive Assistant and Development Associate as initial contact for the Foundation Office by providing reception coverage, answering main phone line and greeting visitors as needed.
  • Provides excellent customer service in a timely manner, according to established standards.
  • Performs other duties as required, and assists with Foundation's tasks and other fundraising projects as requested.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND SUCCESS INDICATORS:
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional discretion and ethical behavior.
  • Ability to conceptualize and be innovative with a new mix of event programs and services to meet both "customer" (donor) and organizational needs.
  • Display strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in coordination of LuskinOIC events.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and problem solving skills with attention to detail and disciplined follow-through to complete assigned tasks and duties within specified deadlines and on budget.
  • Demonstrate an ability to handle multiple assignments while meeting deadlines, monitor and meet goals set with the DOD.
  • Ability to proofread printed copy in English required and Spanish preferred.
  • Independently discern work priorities.
  • Skilled at working with a wide variety of individuals at varying levels and departments both inside and outside of the organization as well as speak on a one-to-one basis and in a group setting to convey information, influence others to embrace a specific course of action, obtain consensus and get tasks completed on time and within budget, explain LuskinOIC expectations.
  • Skilled in remaining focused on timely completion of professional level work while being continually interrupted by phone and in person.
  • Must be extremely flexible and possess the ability to go with the flow.
  • Skilled in working on extremely short deadlines (hours or minutes) when necessary to complete tasks.
  • Must be willing to work evenings/weekends as needed and travel to multiple LuskinOIC sites and other locations in the performance of job functions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent of combined education and experiences is required.
  • Experience in fundraising preferred.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge (RE) database and RE Event Module preferred.
  • History of advancing a not-for-profit institution in areas relating to outreach, and financial development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years events or related experience for a non-profit preferred.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English required and in Spanish preferred.
