Position Summary:
The Director of Education Operations will role report to the Vice President of Education and serve as a senior leader that will oversee the education group budgets, cost controls, finances, financial analysis, statistical analysis, course pricing, and all education program management. The Director will be responsible for aligning Education budgets, forecasts, and analysis of all education related operation, including virtual learning, hybrid and ground courses, programs, conferences, and events. The candidate will create operational strategy and have operational oversight of all programs, professional development initiatives, online courses, and other virtual offerings in conjunction with the Vice President of Education. This role will partner with key staff from various IHI teams across the organization.
Position Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Budgets and Finance
- Partner with Finance and the business to manage, analyze and review organizational budgets, measure & track ROI, and reconcile and explain discrepancies
- Focus on optimizing business operations, continuous process improvements, and evolving forecasting and delivery processes
- Identify and establish metrics and KPIs to prepare organization for current and future business models
- Establish success measures and key results that promote, reinforce, and sustain operational excellence over time
- Serve as a change agent who is comfortable with ambiguity and challenging the status quo
- Bring expertise or identify SME in support of multi-functional efforts in process improvement, data capture and analysis, infrastructure support, tool ownership and compliance with procedures, etc.
- Advise Education group by providing strategic direction to initiate prioritization, integration, and resource application
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for cross-functional teams through the disciplined use of measurements, accountability, analysis, and discussion of process alternatives to arrive at best practices
- Find ways to overcome organizational inertia, individual resistance to change, or change saturation
- Create and promote an understanding of change leadership, agility, and resilience
- Closely collaborate and partner with cross-functional teams to execute on strategic initiatives globally and at scale
- Ensure Global Education and Training policies and procedures align with IHI vision
Global Education Implementation
- Oversee program budgets and operational resources prior to and during program commencement through implementation
- Collaborate with the Sr. Director of Education and Sr. Director of Program Design to ensure all sectors (online learning, roll out planning, etc.) of the educational offering is complete and seamless
- Maintain standards and share learnings across program and project teams
- Support success, development, and joy of program team members
- Key liaison and collaborator with Design, Delivery, VPDs, Marketing and Operations to ensure clear communication and transparency
Global Education Planning and Administration
- Determine and coordinate operational execution of a calendar of educational and professional development offerings that align to customer need
- Establish clear goals that can be tracked and summarized over time; Ensure programs are delivering on impact, reach, team vitality, and financial vitality
- Evaluate current standard work and address gaps and opportunities for improvement with relevant staff
- Develop, maintain, and prioritize improvement on cross-educational processes (e.g., scholarships, enrollment, discounts, standard work)
- Lead quarterly strategy and pipeline review processes
- Lead quarterly program reprojection process and escalate financial implications to VP of Education
- Lead annual program fiscal year planning process
- Develop and lead program evaluation process and contribute to overall learning and continuous improvement ideas
- Manage monthly updates of visual management board

- Strong project management skills, including mastery of detail, multi-tasking, delivering reliable results within agreed timelines
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate with health care and community workers and partners at all levels
- Ability to meet programmatic goals (project outcomes, mentoring, transfer of skills, supervision of progress, innovation, dissemination of knowledge)

- Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

- Ability to think about whole systems, rather than optimize for one part
- Strong writing skills (fluency in MS Word, strong language skills) - ability to produce written reports that succinctly describe activities, articulates insights and challenges
- Strong quantitative skills (fluency in MS Excel) - ability to understand, collate, integrate data into project
- Able to maneuver through complex political situations to achieve desired outcomes
- Ability and skill to drive and achieve quality results within complex, time constrained goals
- Negotiation, decision making, and delegation skills
- Coaching and motivation building skills to be an effective mentor, employee advocate, and team leader
- Ability to actively support, communicate, and teach the unique culture and values of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement
- Strong interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across the organization and driving alignment

Position Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
- At least 7 plus years financial, business, and operational analysis required
- Prior experience managing P&L budget of 25+ million required
- Three to five years of experience leading implementation of global initiatives that require cross functional coordination
- Commitment to IHI's mission and values
