Position Summary

As the Colleges’ Director of Compliance, you will be a key contributor to ensuring Seattle Colleges fulfills its missions of preparing each student for success in life and work, fostering a diverse, engaged, and dynamic community.

In this role, you will lead cross functional teams from across the Seattle Colleges District to enhance and institutionalize the Colleges’ compliance programs. In addition to leading cross functional teams, this position directly supervises staff responsible for public records management, environmental health and safety, and occupational health and safety.

Salary range for this position is: $95,000 to $115,000 per year (depending upon experience)

What you will be working on:

  • Managing process for developing and updating the District’s policies and procedures, working with relevant stakeholders to develop schedules for policy and procedures review as well as assisting in preparing policy and procedure statements.
  • Compile data reports and analysis on compliance related matters to provide recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert, you’ll work across multiple organizational structures and processes to ensure that the District’s response to Title IX issues complies with legal mandates and District policy.
  • As needed, you will thoroughly and expeditiously, review and investigate complaints of discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, sexual violence and retaliation.
  • Collaborate with third party vendors to implement case management and compliance training technology solutions.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental ad hoc meetings between HR and Student Services, Public Safety, Disability Services, Counseling, and other applicable departments to discuss best strategies on integrating services for staff and students.
  • Provide direction and support for the administrative code related process, including filing forms, tracking schedules, ensuring that documents are in the correct format, and communicating as appropriate within the college community and with external agencies.
  • Collaborating with assigned Assistant Attorney Generals with respect to ensuring compliance with public records laws, as well as responding to records production related to pending legal matters.
  • Ensure state and federal compliance with L&I, OSHA and WISHA, including the review and revision of relevant policies, procedures, and operational practices.
  • Work closely and collaborate with stakeholders including Facilities and external agencies to ensure colleges’ health and safety needs are up-to-date and meet regulatory standards.
  • Serve as District’s Ethics Advisor.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • You have a masters degree or Juris Doctor and five or more years of demonstrated success working or advising in a complex environment (or an equivalent combination of education and experience), ideally coordinating institutional compliance.
  • You have knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to higher education, such as Title IX, public records, and OSHA rules.
  • You have demonstrated experience in analyzing and prioritizing complex and emerging compliance issues.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion and tact while working with highly sensitive and confidential materials.
  • You have investigated allegations or compliance issues in a professional setting.
  • You remain organized when handling high-volumes of information under legal deadlines.
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to effectively communicate complex matters to diverse constituents.
  • You have worked in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
  • You understand how institutional racism intersects with compliance, and have the ability to recommend changes to ensure equity.

Physical Requirements:

The position

  • Typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office.
  • Encounters frequent interruptions throughout the workday.
  • Is regularly required to provide 1:1 support, present to small groups, and work at a computer exercising repetitive hand motion with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Is regularly required to work in various environmental temperatures and conditions.
