Department Summary
The primary mission of the Educator Preparation Office in the College of Education is the continuous improvement in the preparation of future teachers by providing information, support, and service to students, faculty, and district partners. We meet these goals in multiple ways, including providing diverse clinical practice experiences for candidates, through thoughtful compliance with state and national accreditation standards governing the profession, the collection and analysis of candidate progress data, and supporting candidates in all aspects of the certification process itself.

Position Overview
This position has primary responsibility for the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of field experiences and clinical practice placements in area schools and districts for all educator preparation program certification candidates at UNT. This position requires ongoing contact with internal and external constituents to fulfill the goal of the constant improvement of educator preparation at UNT

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education or related field combined with a history of successful role-related experience. Evidence of administrative or leadership experience in school districts or teacher preparation, and 3 years of professional experience in a public school or district administrative position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Teacher Education or related Field is strongly preferred.
  • Outstanding organizational and planning skills; competence in successfully tracking several projects simultaneously.
  • Superior interpersonal and professional communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Working knowledge of Texas Education Agency/State Board for Educator Certification statutes and regulations related to educator preparation (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
  • Exceptional ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with schools and the community.
  • Demonstrated record of success providing professional development for teacher education students or practicing teachers.
  • Successful experience in an educator preparation program.
  • Prior successful experience in same or similar position.
  • Knowledge of T-TESS Evaluation System.


Required License / Registration / Certification
Licensure or eligibility for licensure in a Teacher Education Certification Field in the State of Texas.

Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.

Job Duties

o
Solicit and coordinate high-quality field experiences and clinical practice placements for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate initial certification candidates in surrounding districts and schools.

o
Serve as the primary point of contact for school and district administrators, teachers, UNT faculty, staff, and students for all field-based and clinical practice educator preparation courses and experiences.

o
Actively engage in outreach to develop and sustain partnerships with area schools and districts to enhance students’ placement opportunities for field experience and clinical placements that reflect student, faculty, and program goals.

o
Recruit, assist with hiring decisions, train, and coordinate field supervisory staff; conduct pre-placement meetings, trainings, and orientations for students, field supervisors, cooperating teachers, and cadre coordinators, ensuring currency and accuracy of all program handbooks, materials, and web-based information.

o
Maintain a database for tracking placements (including fieldwork sites, field supervisors, and clinical teachers) in compliance with Texas Education Agency requirements, relevant accreditation standards, and program goals.

Assist in the coordination, management, and collection of data and required documentation for all field experiences and clinical experiences as required for accreditation and program review.

o
Initiate, track, review, and monitor status of placements and all associated documentation, including required clearances and eligibility documents; implement student disciplinary and professional development plans as needed.

o
Participate in ongoing review, analysis, and revision of field and clinical experiences to reflect changes in the Texas Administrative Code and Program goals and requirements.
