POSITION SUMMARY:

Supervises and coordinates the Utilization Review Coordinators and their job functions for optimal customer satisfaction, resource utilization, and optimize reimbursement for facility. Ensures the UR plan meets requirements of regulatory and licensing groups. Performs the overall function of providing an ongoing, systematic process for the measurement and assessment of the necessity, appropriateness, and efficiency of the use of the company’s Healthcare services, procedures, and facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training:

RN or Master’s Degree in Behavioral Health Field (e.g. Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work)

Experience:

At least 5 years experience in a psychiatric setting as counselor and/or nurse.

Two years supervisory or management experience.

Licensure/Certification:

· LCSW or RN licensure by the state of North Carolina

· Current North Carolina Driver’s License

Knowledge and Skills:

· Knowledge of appropriate clinical assessment, diagnoses, & interventions with patients.

· Knowledge of admission and discharge criteria and function.

· Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic terms, treatment modalities, and medical record keeping.

· Ability to understand psychiatric evaluations, medical consultations, lab results, medication management, and other components of patient treatment.

· Skills in application of DSM methodology

· Effective oral and written communication skills and skills in analyzing and evaluating information

· Intermediate computer skills

· Organizational, time management, problem solving, crisis management skills as well as flexibility, creativity, and the ability to manage stress

· Knowledge of funding sources needs.

· Ability to supervise, plan, and organize the functions of the facility’s Case Management system to minimize denials of payment.

· Ability to manage, prepare, and submit appeal to third party payors on clinical denials.

· Knowledge of payer contracts and regulatory requirements.

· Ability to conduct admission and concurrent reviews and communicate pertinent information to payer and treatment team when needed.
