As a team that works in a fast–paced, dynamic environment, during the time of year associated with fire season; the incumbent uses both independent judgment and knowledge-based established guidelines and procedures to provide safe, reliable and effective service for the PC Region Communications Center. This position provides a variety of specialized administrative and complex clerical functions, which encompass direct support of the following programs, applications and activities: wildfire and emergency dispatching, Incident Qualification System (IQS), Interagency Resource Ordering Capability (IROC), Wildland Fire Computer Aided Dispatch System (WildCAD), radio and telephone communications, Industrial Fire Precaution Level ratings. The person in this position is responsible for timely and accurate data entry into numerous web based applications to capture and record wildfire activity; fire weather forecast retrievals and radio broadcasts; private and industrial cooperator notifications; regional standby updates; fire reports, resource directory maintenance; fire prevention; and general region administrative support.
Scheduled workdays and hours are subject to change, to include holidays and weekends (June through October) and other periods during the year as required. In addition, emergency work may require overtime on regularly scheduled workdays, as well as working on scheduled days off.
The Location:
Castle Rock, WA which is nestled centrally within the Pacific Cascade Region and is a diverse and beautiful location. In one day you can go from the heights of White Pass, to the shores of the Long Beach Peninsula. Interested individuals can find numerous miles of hiking along the Pacific Crest Trail, snow sports at White Pass, fishing along the Columbia River, big game hunting in the Willapa Hills, duck hunting or bird watching at numerous National Wildlife Refuges and the splendors of one of the most productive shellfisheries in the world! For the urbanites among us, the Region is host to Vancouver, Kelso, Longview, Chehalis and Centralia and is just a short hop away from Portland and Olympia areas. Sports fans can easily travel to catch a Seahawks, Blazers, Mariners, Winterhawks, Timbers or Sounders game. Finally, for the true explorers, Pacific Cascade Region is home to some of the best sasquatching locations in country!
Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- One year experience with work involving public contact or communication such as radio communications, receptionist, switchboard operator, or clerical office work which included dealing with the public.
- Efficient skills in computer programs such as Microsoft Suite.
- Effective oral and verbal communications.
- Experience with record keeping.
- Experience with data analysis.
- Willingness and ability to work in a high pressure environment.

Position's assigned duty station is the Pacific Cascade Communication Center in Castle Rock. Work is performed in an office setting (90%) and field visits (10%). Must be able to pick up and carry appropriate supplies (up to 25 lbs.), as needed, to conduct assigned tasks. Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced and reactive environment.

Our ideal candidate will also have the qualifications listed below:
- Knowledge of and ability to explain the Forest Fire Protection Laws/Rules - i.e., Violations, Silvicultural Burning/Permits, Forest Closures/Suspensions, Fire Protection Regulations, Hazard Abatement.
- NWCG qualifications such as; EDRC, IADP, ACDP.
- Working knowledge and ability to utilize the ICS (Incident Command System).
- Trained in IROC (Incident Resource Ordering.
- Capability) and WildCAD (Wildland Fire Computer-Aided Dispatch).
