GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The Clinical Education Specialist is responsible for assisting the clinical education coordinators in the continuing development and maintenance of the clinical education (fieldwork) components of the AuD Program.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


Clinical Education Program Management

  • Develop and maintain a procedural manual and other documents related to clinical education.
  • Collect and analyze data regarding clinical education.
  • Maintain, and manage a clinical education database (CALIPSO) related to operations, assessment, and quality control for all sites and preceptors each semester. This will include setting up and managing time logs, case logs, student and preceptor evaluations, reminder emails, documenting students' knowledge and skills, etc.
  • Upload CALIPSO preceptor evaluations into Box for SOA Director's access
  • Assist with efforts to ensure compliance with accreditation standards related to clinical education.
  • Collaborate with clinical education coordinator in preparing documents, packets, and information that is needed by preceptors and/or students.
  • Review results related to clinical education program management and communicate with all constituents.


Clinical Site/Preceptor Management

  • Track, document, and manage license and certification requirements for sites and preceptors.
  • Coordinate information flow regarding scheduling for clinical education.
  • Manage, maintain, and evaluate affiliation agreements and accreditation-required site profiles.
  • Track FERPA, HIPAA, BLS/CPR, background checks, immunizations, drug screens, and insurance requirements to ensure compliance for 2nd & 3rd Year students.
  • Request and forward certificates of insurance as requested.
  • Manage any unique site-specific requirements for students.


SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with faculty to organize appropriate OAA exam space and proctor exams, as needed.
  • Assists senior manager of operations with events, orientation, graduation, etc., as requested.
  • Assists the staff in the PacificEar Clinic with administrative tasks, as needed and requested.
  • Volunteer work at university events and attendance of All Staff meetings is highly recommended.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including service to the school, college, and university.


JOB SCOPE:

  • Most work is expected to be self-guided, operating from established directions, policies, and procedures, with guidance from the senior manager of operations, clinical education coordinator and clinic director as needed.
  • Excellence in performing the responsibilities of this office is essential. Mistakes or errors may result in harm to our students’ education and our relations with the audiology community, which can have negative financial implications for the university. Errors may also negatively impact licensure requirements, accreditation standards, and professional ethical conduct expectations.


SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY:

This position is not supervisory in nature. May occasionally supervise student workers.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Earned associate degree or equivalent required, earned baccalaureate degree preferred.
  • Degree or experience in business, audiology, communication sciences/disorders, healthcare management, and/or education desirable.
  • Experience student rotations desirable.
  • Experience in an academic setting and/or healthcare environment desirable.

  • Effectively utilizes office productivity software (e.g., Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Forms, Google Sheets) and internet applications, including internet searching efficiency.
  • Is able to prioritize assignments, maintain well organized filing systems, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain strong adherence to principles of confidentiality (including FERPA, HIPAA, and other laws).
  • Completes work with accuracy and attention to details. Works independently in an organized and timely manner.
  • Asks questions and seeks assistance. Builds on basic learning and carries it from one situation to another. Operationalizes and implements ideas. Utilizes appropriate problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Takes responsibility to eliminate the source of problems.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Typical office environment, with routine computer- and paper-based work requirements.
  • Includes occasional evening and weekend work requirements to support the work of the university's clinical education programs.
