Summary:
The Egress/ECS Systems Specialist II is responsible for servicing the aviation ejection and oxygen systems on FA-18 aircraft, for the customer. PKL Services Inc. employees at this site are subject to a Union/Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) regarding employment terms and work rules.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Install, remove, replace, service, adjust and troubleshoot ejection seat, canopy, explosive devices, airframe/avionics related environment control systems, and functional components including rigging of explosive linkage devices, ejection seat, canopy, canopy drive and locking mechanisms using hand tools, power tools and applicable test equipment.
- Perform hourly, calendar, phase, and conditional inspections as required by maintenance requirement cards.
- Ability to incorporate minor aircraft modifications to ejection seat, canopy, and airframe/avionics environmental control systems.
- Use color coded charts of aircraft plumbing.
- Interpret schematic diagrams.
- Interpret applicable technical data.
- Use and care of power tools, test equipment and precision measuring devices in the maintenance and repair of aircraft.
- Must pass a physician’s examination to allow the handling of Explosive Cartridge Actuated Devices (CADS) on ejection seats.
- This position does not require the handling of Arms or Ammunition.
- Any and all other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
Required educational/skills background:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States (U.S.).
- Legacy F/A-18 experience preferred but not required
- Other eligible experience that will be considered: Applicants who do not have Legacy F-18 experience but have ejection seat experience via the USN or USAF must be vetted by the customer then successfully complete the NAMTRA Egress course for the Legacy aircraft if approved.
- Applicants who do not have prior F/A-18 experience must have previous experience as an Egress/ECS Systems Specialist and successfully complete the NAMTRA Egress course for the Legacy aircraft.
- Level II – five (5) years previous experience as an Egress/ECS Systems Specialist. (CDI Experience). Must be capable of attaining Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) within required timeframe.
- Capable of operating support equipment.
- Working knowledge of the COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 (series).
- Knowledge of Naval maintenance publications maintenance requirement cards and the ability to document maintenance utilizing the Naval Aviation Logistics Command Information System (NALCOMIS).
- Training to include NAMTRGD Navy AME “A” or factory equivalent ejection seat and environmental control system course of instruction.
Physical Demands:
This position requires normal physical functions. Work may require frequent bending, reaching, and climbing. May frequently lift and carry items weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with the assistance of other workers. Work may be performed on top or under equipment in cramped or awkward positions, including the FA-18 cockpit. Normal color/depth perception and no record of emotional instability are required.
Work Environment (ADA):
May be required to work in areas in or near a hangar/ flight line that may be noisy at times. May be exposed to moderate discomforts, such as heat, cold and wind. May be required to wear personal protective equipment when in or passing thru a hazardous area.
