We are seeking to hire Teacher Assistants for lower elementary (K-2nd) and upper elementary (3rd-5th) school level general education inclusion classrooms. We are seeking passionate professionals to be a part of our initiative to build an excellent inclusive preschool and elementary school community.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will:

  • Have an AA, BA or MA. Or a high school dip0lma / GED and passes the Praxis Parapro exam.
  • Have taken course work in early childhood education, elementary education, or human development.
  • Have experience with the readers and writers workshop approach to literacy instruction.
  • Have prior work or volunteer experience with children or student with special needs.
  • Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Have a track record of being a team player and community minded.
  • Be committed to their own learning.
  • Passion for public schools.
  • Adherence to a high level of professional and ethical standards.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Work with the Lead Teacher in the planning and management of a classroom.
  • Support the planning and teaching of students for the core subjects of reading, math, science, social studies.
  • Support the development of meaningful learning expeditions and projects.
  • Assess student progress regularly and using data to plan for instruction.
  • Work with the Lead Teacher, special education service providers (speech, PT,OT), ELL teacher and other Assistant Teacher(s) or Teaching Fellow(s).
  • Learn about writing IEP goals, progress summaries and report cards.
  • Create a classroom culture and environment that develops and nurtures the emotional, cognitive and social abilities of the students, implementing Responsive Classroom techniques.
  • Respond to students’ behavior appropriately and successfully.
  • Engage parents and families in their student’s learning and acting as an ambassador for the school in the community.
  • Contribute productively to the school as a whole.
  • Attend and participate in school events outside of regular school hours

SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary rate is based on educational level, certification(s), and years of experience. Employment agreements will be renewed according to evaluations and staff interest. Health benefits (medical & dental), disability insurance, and a retirement plan: 401-(k).

Pay: $30,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

COVID-19 considerations:
100% mask wearing policy for students & staff. Daily health screening, social distancing, and regular sanitization. COVID-19 vaccine required for school staff. School follows DC Dept. of Health's safety guidelines and requirements for schools.
