EMR ABSTRACTOR- CENTRAL SERVICES- FULL-TIME
Job description
Summary
The EMR Abstractor extracts information from medical records and electronic medical records and records them in patient records. Transcribes information received from medical facilities including hospitals, pharmacies and other physician practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Abstracts patient information from medical records.
- Transcribes patient medical information into EMR.
- Correlates ICD – 10 codes with transcribed patient diagnosis and procedures.
- Transcribes special reports as requested.
- Verifies accuracy of patient information in the file.
- Assist with recording of new patient paperwork.
- Works with medical assistants and other staff to route patient charts to proper location.
- Answers telephone and gives routine information in accordance with established procedures.
- Follows medical records policies and procedures.
- Duplicates documents and forms as directed.
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.

- Compiles information and prepares reports.
- Maintains records.
Maintains effective working relationships with medical staff, office staff and the public. - Deals with stressful situations.
- Participates in educational activities.
- Follows organizational policies and procedures, including State of Franklin Healthcare Associates Compliance Manual, Code of Ethics and Business Standards, HR Policies and Procedures Manual, Team Member Handbook, OSHA Manual and any other policies or procedures for the job function, department, location or clinic.

Qualifications
- EMR Abstractor must demonstrate exceptional customer service, initiative, cooperation and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Maturity, patience, sound judgment, an aptitude for organization and excellent interpersonal skills are required.
- Knowledge of medical business office procedures, insurance policies accepted by the practice and referral requirements associated with each.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Skills in using a computer, copier, printer, scanner, fax machines and other office equipment.
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type patient information.
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
Education
This position requires a High School Diploma/GED.
Experience
One year related experience in a medical office and/or nursing experience preferred. Basic knowledge of working with computer software programs such as Microsoft Word.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Related EMR and/or Coding certifications are encouraged.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a medical office environment involving contact with patients, physicians, staff, insurance carriers and other business partners. May work in high stress direct patient care areas. Demands high level of concentration and the ability to work in emotionally charged situations. Stress levels may be high due to frequently dealing with conflicting priorities, multiple tasks and emergency situations. Occasional local travel between work sites and additional hours, including evening or weekend work, may be necessary.
