Position Description Summary:
The Communication Program within the Department of Organizational
Sciences and Communication invites applications for a tenured-track, endowed associate professor position to begin in Fall 2023. The new hire will hold the Chauncey M. Depew Professorship, which was created in 1936 and is one of the oldest endowed professorships at the university.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
We seek a scholar with a strong, innovative, and potentially interdisciplinary research program, a track record that demonstrates evidence or promise of external funding, and expertise in the study of communication processes in organizational and/or health contexts. Areas of emphasis may include, but are not limited to, intersections of organizational and health communication, health and wellbeing at individual/family/organizational/community levels, communication technologies and/or social media, communication networks, health inequities, organizing for social change, globalization and intercultural collaboration, physician-patient communication, etc.
The successful candidate will be responsible for service contributions and play a leadership role, such as serving as a program director for the undergraduate and/or graduate program, as well as future department chair. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses including but not limited to research methods and senior seminar, which is a required sequence for our undergraduate majors, culminating in a capstone thesis.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have earned a PhD in Communication or a closely related field by date of appointment. Applicants must also demonstrate evidence of an active, independent research program and teaching excellence as evidenced by teaching evaluations, as well as evidence or promise of securing external funding. Candidates must be well grounded in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods. Applicants must also demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a diverse educational community.

George Washington’s Department of Organizational Sciences and Communication is a multidisciplinary department in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. The department offers undergraduate and master’s degrees in Organizational Sciences and in Communication, and a doctoral degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. The Communication program offers an undergraduate major and two minors (Communication, Organizational Communication), as well as a Master’s degree in Communication Management.
