Growing and expanding facility _ immediate opening for Engineering Manager.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The basic functions of the position are to plan, direct, manage and/or perform all activities to complete the project design and documents, in accordance with industry codes and authority having jurisdiction regulations. This process includes preparation of material lists, submittals necessary to obtain applicable design approvals and final closeout documentation.

The Engineering Manager is a working manager who is responsible for his own productivity as well as the productivity of the Engineering departmental personnel reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

Possesses extensive technical knowledge of the company’s products and services, as well as a good working knowledge of the company’s methods and quality standards.

Provide the overall leadership and direction to the Engineering Department while maintaining a work environment that promotes productivity, cooperation and creativity.

Responsible for estimating, mold design review, mold build, material recommendations and part approval management.

Establish the standards for preparation of engineering and documents. Work with the Director of Operations to ensure consideration of effective quality procedures, when developing those standards.

Responsible for achieving agreed upon budgeted tooling margins

Responsible for achieving planned and budgeted production margin.

Responsible for achieving at least _TBD_% of initial planned cycle time.

Actively works to reduce production loss due to outside tooling logistic or quality issues accomplished through proactive supplier management techniques.

Constantly strive to effectively manage and mentor departmental positions of Manufacturing Engineer and Tooling Engineer for production cost savings due to process improvement or technical changes.

Hold weekly engineering project report meetings with applicable staff present to monitor projects in development or not of an approved status. Reports are published available to upper management.

Hold bi-monthly engineering department meetings including all departmental staff and Operations Coordinator. This meeting is designed to discuss any and all concerns both plant and departmental of concern to each individual member of the team. Minutes are published and available to upper management positions.

Advise the Director of Operations regarding any or all questions related to the engineering schedule for each project, considering resources available and prior commitments for individual projects. Ensure that the overall schedules are realistic.

Assists the Sales Department in developing quotes, timelines, and bills of material.

Meet with the Sales Manager and assigned Engineer to review the estimate documentation, design details and special conditions to ensure efficient production of the job.

Ensure that design drawings and material lists and work instructions are complete and produced consistent with established company standards.

Complete all obligations; do what has been committed, while functioning as a cooperative, productive and creative member of the management team.

Foster a cooperative working relationship with all other company employees, handling difficult situations tactfully. Investigate and solve problems fairly, with facts, rather than assumptions.

Make decisions in a timely manner, with consultation when appropriate, taking full responsibility for those decisions.

Consistently show the ability to recognize and deal with priorities consistent with the overall company objectives.

Effectively manage and mentor Engineering Assistant in organizing all engineering electronic files, document files and work instructions in an orderly and effective manner.

Monitors tool-room hours and cost per project specifically regarding revenue projects and in conjunction with the Tool Room Manager.

Manage outsourced tooling projects including build / revision both domestic and international. Arrange meetings with suppliers that have underperformed on projects and enact corrective actions for these.

Ensure that appropriate submittal packages are prepared and transmitted timely to applicable parties, and that transmittal is documented and tracked. Ensure that all applicable design approvals are obtained in a reasonable time.

Ensure open communications with the Director of Operations, Sales Manager and customer representatives to resolve design related issues and maintain consistent progress.

Ensure that final job close out documents are prepared and submitted, per established procedure, after final acceptance testing.

Work with the Director of Operations to ensure that the company consistently has engineering employees with the skills needed to effectively meet the company’s and customer’s expectations.

Actively participate in the recruiting and selection process for new engineers.

Coordinate and assign, as applicable, on-going training in the functions the engineers are accountable for as per their job description responsibilities mandate. This may require finding outside resources for maintain/improving technical knowledge.

Develops and maintains Departmental policies and procedures and ensures all employees are in compliance.

Evaluate all employees reporting to this position, according to established procedure. Communicate with the Shift Supervisors as necessary, to gain feedback about performance of engineering employees.

Actively participate in the Operations and Lean meetings to ensure timely coordination of corrective action or process changes.

Prepares interim and completion project reports in a timely manner.

Demonstrate good judgment in investigating and solving problems, handling difficult situations tactfully. Foster a cooperative working relationship with all other company employees.

Safeguard all customer, company and employee information providing such information only to those authorized and when needed.

Perform all other duties deemed appropriate by the Director of Operations

Competencies

High School Diploma (or equivalent) with continuing technical training in plastic injection related disciplines.

At least 8 years combined experience in plant operations and engineering (design) in an injection molding or related industry, including experience using computer aided design systems.

Note: 4 years of the experience can be waived with a Bachelor Degree in an engineering discipline directly relating to injection molding.

Good communication skills, written and verbal

Good computer skills, especially in the areas of Excel, Word, Microsoft Project and Access

Understand and skilled in IQMS system

Meet ISO requirements and compliance

Preferred:

Bachelor Degree in an engineering discipline directly relating to plastic injection molding

Experience in SolidWorks CAD software

Previous work experience and/or training with ISO requirements and compliance

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
