Job description

The Washington, D.C. office of McGuireWoods seeks an experienced associate to join the firm’s environmental practice group. The McGuireWoods’ environmental team deals with all aspects of environmental regulation, regulatory compliance, and related litigation. The firm’s D.C. practice addresses all major areas of environmental law, but is particularly focused on representing clients in matters involving the federal Clean Air Act, climate change, environmental justice, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. Our nationally recognized group regularly represents energy and other industrial clients before the U.S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA), state environmental permitting agencies, and the federal courts.

Key aspects of the environmental associate position include significant exposure to clients and responsibility for monitoring and analyzing regulatory and legal developments of interest to the firm’s clients. The position will also require substantial involvement in complex environmental rulemaking proceedings, permitting actions, and federal litigation, particularly before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Job Requirements:

Qualified candidates will have at least 1 year of practice handling environmental matters, with a preference for candidates with experience on Clean Air Act and climate issues. Prior experience in actions before federal and state environmental and natural resource agencies would be a plus. Excellent academic credentials, writing, and communication skills are required, along with a commitment to firm’s core values of excellence, integrity, client service, diversity and inclusion, community, and collegiality, and an enthusiasm for working with a team. Please submit cover letter, resume, transcript and writing sample.
