Job description
POSITION SUMMARY
The employee is responsible for all KVHC cleaning, sanitation, and janitorial standards and requirements to accomplish the highest standards for all areas of the KVHC facilities. The employee is required to have knowledge of cleaning standards for the professional medical practice. The employee is required to be knowledgeable of Katahdin Valley Health Center policies, regulations, and procedures including but not limited to facility safety, exposure control, and hazard communication. Must know OSHA regulations, safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment. The employee will follow the Center for Disease Control and Katahdin Valley Health Center established cleaning and disinfecting environmental surfaces in a health care facility.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Kitchen:
· Clean and empty the trash can and replace the bag.
· Clean and wipe inside and out of the kitchen refrigerator and microwave. (Do not throw away food)
· Clean and wipe down tables.
· Clean and sanitize sink and counters.
· Clean chairs and chair legs.
· Sweep and wash floors. (make sure corners are clean)
· Clean and wipe down the coffee maker.
· Clean and wipe down the water cooler, water nozzle, and empty the drip pan.
· Refill paper towel and soap dispenser as needed.
· Clean ceiling vents as needed.
Exam Rooms:
· Clean and empty the trash can and replace the bag.
· Disinfect and wipe all surfaces (counters, cabinet fronts, doors, exam bed frames, stool, and chairs including legs).
· Clean and sanitize sink and counters.
· Sweep and wash floors. (make sure corners are clean)
· Refill paper towel, hand sanitizer, and soap dispensers as needed.
· Clean ceiling vents as needed.
Bathrooms:
· Clean and empty the trash can and replace the bag.
· Clean and sanitize sinks, urinals, and toilets.
· Wipe off cabinet fronts, doors, and stall dividers.
· Sweep and wash floors. (be sure to get in corners and around the toilets).
· Clean and refill paper towel and soap dispenser as needed.
· Clean ceiling vents as needed.
Waiting Rooms:
· Clean and wipe down all chairs including legs.
· Clean and wipe down and organize any magazine and literature racks.
· Clean and wipe down window sills and dust blinds.
· Sweep and wash floors and rugs; pull out chairs and rugs to clean under, (be sure to get corners).
· Clean glass in doors and windows as necessary.
· Clean ceiling vents as needed.
Offices:
· Clean and empty trash cans and replace bags.
· Clean and wipe window sills and dust blinds.
· Clean and wipe off all counters and desks where accessible (do not move items on desks).
· Wash front office receptionist window inside and out.
· Clean and wipe down chairs including legs.
· Wipe down bookcases, file cabinets, heating units, etc.
· Vacuum, sweep and wash floors. (especially under desks – move chair pads and replace).
· Clean ceiling vents as needed.
Miscellaneous:
· Clean and empty all trash cans and replace bags. Place trash in the appropriate dumpster.
· Wipe down all cabinet fronts, doors, counters, etc.
· Sweep and wash floors. (make sure to get corners).
· Vacuum all floor, carpets, rugs, and mats.
· Clean all heat units.
· Wash all walls and ceilings as necessary.
· Buffing, stripping, and waxing of all hard surfaces as needed.
· Shampoo all carpets and rugs as needed.
· Clean window screens as needed.
· Be sure all lights are off and doors are locked before leaving the building.
· Wash windows as needed.

1. Performs additional duties or projects as assigned by the Facilities Manager.
2. Adheres to all KVHC policies and protocols.
3. Complies with all safety rules and protocols. Reports all incidents, regardless of severity, immediately to their supervisor and completes an incident report and investigation form, which will be forwarded to Human Resources within 24 hours of the incident.
4. Conducts themselves as a good steward in the communities served by KVHC; represents the organization at outreach activities as needed.
5. Actively participates as committee member as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
6. Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others. Focusing on the attainment of organization goals and objectives through a commitment to team work.
7. Conforms to acceptable attendance and punctuality standards as expressed in the employee handbook.
8. Abides by the organization’s compliance program and requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. High School education or a combination of education and experience.
2. Must be able to work independently and react to change productively.
3. Must have the ability to learn and follow all safety rules.
4. Must have experience and working knowledge of cleaning equipment and supplies.
5. Must know the definition of “clean” as it applies to the outpatient medical environment.
6. Must be aware of and committed to building security practices.
7. 3Must possess a clean criminal and DHHS background.
8. Must possess the ability and means to travel between clinics as needed.
9. Valid State of Maine Driver’s license and ability to be insured by KVHC’s vehicle insurance carrier.
FUNCTION, DEMANDS AND PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE
Requires full range of body motion with the ability to bend, kneel and stoop. Must possess: the ability to sit and or stand for long periods of time, the ability to lift approximately 30 lbs., visual acuity with color vision, the ability to communicate effectively and calmly in a professional manner, the ability to follow all workplace policies including safety and confidentiality, the ability to perform repetitive motion keyboarding functions, exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to clinic environment. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care. Must possess the ability to work with and around medical equipment and instruments safely and effectively as appropriate. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment including Safety Data Sheets. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly.
