Overview:
In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform wetland delineations, protected species habitat characterization, land use mapping, and vegetation cover classification, GPS data collection, permitting, and report preparations for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and various state and county agencies. In addition, you will provide project management and assist with environmental regulatory and project permitting efforts. You will prepare environmental documents for the acquisition of 404/401 Clean Water Act (CWA) permits, documents pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and work with environmental staff and engineering clients in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and throughout the southeast.
Responsibilities:
  • Conducting field surveys and collecting data.
  • Performing wetlands/waters of the US delineations.
  • Operate GPS equipment.
  • Preparing reports for projects that have been evaluated in the field or descriptions based on available maps and aerial photographs.
  • Coordinate with clients, regulatory/resource agencies, local governments.
  • Manage technical studies and assist ecological resource teams with various natural resource surveys.
  • Preparation of CWA and NEPA documentation to include Pre-Construction Notifications (PCN) for both Nationwide Permit (NWP) and Individual Permit (IP) submissions, environmental impact statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and Categorical Exclusions (CEs).
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control for all final products to ensure technical accurateness and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain a high professional profile externally through membership in professional organizations, continually increasing client contact base.
  • Participate in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
Qualifications:
  • B.S. Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, Botany, Zoology, or a related curriculum. M.S. Degree is not required; however, pertinent field is preferred.
  • 3 to 10 years of relevant work experience; or graduate-level work can be considered in lieu of consulting experience.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Ability to work within a team or independently.
  • Good technical writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with GIS is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to traverse difficult terrain, ability to lift, carry, and move items and equipment up to 25 pounds, and work in adverse weather conditions. This position may require walking several miles in one day for extended periods.
  • Demonstrated skill and commitment to QA/QC practices.
  • Ability to travel and be out in the field approximately 50% of the time; duration of travel may vary depending on project and client needs, ranging from a few days to a few weeks.
  • Sound knowledge and thorough understanding of delineation manuals, habitat assessment methodologies, technical environmental impact analyses, NEPA requirements, and related environmental regulations.
  • Sound knowledge of environmental compliance requirements as they relate to private and public development projects, to include linear infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of Federal agencies including USACE, USFWS, and SHPO.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with State environmental regulations within VA, NC, SC and throughout the southeast.
  • Willingness to consult with existing and potential clients through business development opportunities by assisting marketing a variety of multi-disciplinary services.
  • Experience with wildlife or aquatic studies and surveys.
  • Plant identification skills a plus.
  • Habitat assessment a plus.
  • Wetland delineation skill a plus.
  • Stream determination skill a plus.
  • Assist with business development and marketing by building new client relationships and maintaining existing ones.
  • The following licenses and/or certifications are preferred, but not required: PWS, REM, REPA CEM, CEP, PE, PG, LSS
