Job Overview
The Event Production Specialist has responsibility to understand the many facets of the Event Production Team while also providing “hands on” training and support to other staff and student workers. This includes live event support and limited support for recording and editing. Reporting to the Event Production Manager, this position is housed in Academic and Scholarly Technology (AST) and is part of the Academic and Institutional Technology (AIT) department. AIT is responsible for supporting Wheaton College in meeting its strategic, operational, and educational objectives through leadership and support of appropriate information technology solutions and services. Schedule to be agreed upon with Manager; recommended schedule for the academic year is 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement a training program of utilizing experienced student leaders who can manage a crew of less-experienced students, who may still be learning Audio/Visual/Lighting (A/V/L).
  • Assist in orienting faculty members to the use of the one-button teaching studio and other means of self-operating (self-op) media.
  • Train students to oversee sound, video, lighting and recording for music concerts, serving as the primary department liaison with the Conservatory of Music. Staff and students should cross-train to have a basic understanding of support across all the college event spaces.
  • Train students to produce music recording and audio/video production projects. Deliver media through appropriate channels.
  • Serve as liaison between customers and student staff, ensuring strong customer service and managing expectations of internal customers.
  • Track incoming event support requests, manage customer relations, and prepare and submit customer billing.
  • Provide tier 2 support for the educational technologies listed in Wheaton College’s faculty toolkit.
  • Support video conferencing solutions for College academic programs and event support.
  • Administer software used to track production support and billing.
  • Maintain designated production facilities in good working order. Recommend purchase of equipment and assist in designing and installing support systems.
  • Recruit, train, coordinate, supervise, and track budget of assigned part-time staff.
  • Participate in meetings, compile reports, and deliver presentations as required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (e.g., Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering) or music or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.
  • Music recording and production experience, including critical listening and musical performance evaluation skills. Ability to provide musical guidance for performers and make musical editing, balance, mixing, and mastering decisions.
  • Audio engineering experience, including proficiency in the use of current computer-based music recording and editing tools, audio theory, acoustics, basic audio electronics, microphone selection and placement technique, and signal processing.
  • Proficiency in venue lighting, video production and editing of live events.
  • Experience in project management, session planning, and budgeting.
  • Skill in identifying, training, and supervising part-time employees in audio/video productions and concert support operations.
  • Ability to shape customer requests to fit within the resources and strategic priorities of the College.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate excellently in both written and interpersonal customer relations.
Physical Requirements
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 50 pounds.
