Our Healthy Families program is searching for a Family Support Specialist (FSS) to provide home-visiting serves Madison and Orange counties. Healthy Families is a national program that works with new families who have a complexity of stressors that place their children at-risk for positive outcomes and healthy childhoods. The FSS receives extensive training to help promote positive parent-child interactions, attachment, and bonding. The FSS provides curriculum and activities to help parents improve parenting skills, promote child development and establish health and safety protocols for the family. The FSS also uses a strength based approach to help the family develop goals and strategies to achieve those goals. Utilizing the Healthy Families model, the FSS provides developmental screens for infants and toddlers, as well as depression screening for the caretaker. The FSS works closely with local service providers and makes referrals to agencies as appropriate.

The ideal candidate has the ability to work independently and is meticulous with record-keeping, specifically records maintained electronically on a daily basis. The ideal candidate possesses time-management skills and but can be flexible in daily planning. The ideal candidate has an understanding of working with people who have navigated issues of substance abuse, intimate partner abuse, adverse childhood experiences, food and/or housing insecurity, unemployment or underemployment, or mental health issues. The ideal candidate will implement the strategies learned in training and will continue to seek out opportunities for professional growth through the Healthy Families professional development network.

The FSS position is a full time position, 40 hours a week. Benefits include health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, retirement contribution, paid holidays, annual and sick leave. The hourly rate is $16.00 - $17.00 per hour. A high school diploma, valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation are required.
