A Home-Based Homeschool Group Job Description

Apricot Lane Farms is a 234-acre farm integrated within a reawakened ecosystem. With a team
that makes the seemingly impossible possible, the farm regeneratively grows more than 200
varieties of fruits and vegetables, and raises sheep, cows, pigs, chickens and ducks with care
and respect while working in harmony (or a comfortable level of disharmony) within a dynamic
ecosystem. We are looking for a dynamic, creative, professional, and experienced Farm School
Teacher.

Job Responsibilities
Create Inquiry-Based Learning Experiences for Young Children (75%)

  • Approach work through a growth-mindset as a teacher-researcher and engaged
collaborator who is curious, eager to learn, joyful and kind.
  • Develop and guide students through engaging and challenging inquiry-based
experiences across the disciplines of reading, writing, mathematics, science, social
sciences, and the languages of the arts, framed by learning structures such as Project
Work.
  • Create individualized learning experiences for students with targeted skills instruction.
  • Value and practice nurturing the social and emotional intelligences of children through

listening, asking questions, seeing conflicts as learning opportunities, offering strategies,
and
supporting them to repair relationships through problem solving.

  • Integrate knowledge of the Common Core Standards with The Farm School’s
approaches.
  • Effectively organize time, space, materials and research data (dialogues, photographs,
videos,
etc.) to reflect the Reggio Emilia and other Farm School friendly philosophies.
  • Use research, documentation, and assessment to inform teaching practice and
curriculum decisions.


Collaborate and Reflect with Teaching Team (10%)

  • Participate as an engaged member of the teaching team in which collaboration,
dialogue, risk taking, honesty and reflection are practiced values.
  • Develop and utilize frameworks to understand and assess individual growth and
learning.
  • Demonstrate an eagerness to continue to learn and grow as a teacher and researcher
by
practicing inquiry, actively digging into current research related to this work, and
regularly
journaling and sharing reflections with others.
  • Participate as a member of the community and collaborative teaching team through
dialogue, analysis of student work, sharing observations and questions, planning, and
capturing thinking.


Making Learning Visible to Families and the Farm Community (10%)

  • Employ strategies for making children’s learning visible in a variety of ways, including
weekly blog posts, documentation displays, etc.
  • Serve as point person and coordinator for The Farm School families.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about student’s experiences, gifts, learning edges
and growth via informal conversations, conferences, and written reports.
  • Integrate technology to support learning and documentation including digital

photographs, audio recordings, scanned work, and video; organize and catalog the
experiences of children each week.

  • Position may involve communication with ALF Social Media team to share insights
learned at The Farm School with the greater ALF community.
  • Teacher may be asked to offer insights to the ALF Events Team, including the Youth
Coordinator, not to take away from core responsibilities, if children’s events
take place on the farm.
  • Teacher may be asked to offer insights and possibly participate in an ALF Education
Team, not to take away from core responsibilities, in order to develop and share
curriculum on a wider stage.

Additional Responsibilities (5%) Management and mentorship of Teacher’s Assistant (TA)
  • Schedule daily tasks, breaks and lunchtimes.
  • Oversight and support for Apricot Afternoons, the After Care Program, which is

facilitated
by the TA.

  • Manage cleanliness of The Farm School House. ALF Housekeeping will assist shared
spaces with bi-monthly cleaning. Kitchen and shared spaces must be tidy at the start of
each school day.
  • Complete a monthly Expense Report to submit to the Finance Department, and attend
monthly meetings to review budget report in order to make data informed decisions.
  • Participate in the Enrollment Planning Team and facilitate site visits and family
interviews
for future Farm School Families.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the HR Director when navigating COD related
situations.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the farm’s landscape and maintenance team on jobs
and repairs that the school requires and additional requests
  • Attend connection & alignment meetings with leadership.
  • As the schedule allows, participate in the All-Farm Morning Meeting to share, and
integrate the school into the ALF community.
  • Maintain a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and communicate any issues to direct supervisor and/or farm

management.

Qualifications/Skills: Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for students at the respective grade

level.
  • Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse

backgrounds
and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.

  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet varied deadlines; manage groups of
students in a classroom environment; and communicate effectively with students,
parents, and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
  • Working familiarity with assistive technologies; internet and email systems; and word
processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Highly organized and with sharp attention to detail.
  • Willingness to maintain confidentiality


Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education.
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience educating primary school children.


Commitment:

  • Teacher Hours are M-F 8-4:30pm
  • School Hours are M-Th 8:30 – 2:30pm
  • Apricot Afternoons, our After Care Program, which is facilitated by the Teacher’s
Assistant runs 2:30 – 4pm
  • Teachers receive competitive pay and a full benefits package, including 401K after 1
year.
  • Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse
