JOB SUMMARY

Working on both projects and bid proposals, the Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the execution of Start-up and Commissioning of Food & Beverage Systems, or parts thereof. The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for:


  • providing technical support regarding system design aspects throughout project bid and design lifecycles
  • undertaking other technical tasks as required (e.g. site surveys, installation studies, support to sales, etc)
  • to start up and hand over food processing equipment for SPXFlow North and Latin America clients. This could also involve in providing process support, service support and coordinating process testing / equipment trials at client sites or SPXFlow Innovation Test Centers
  • Prepare equipment for operation according to manufacturers' and engineers' documentation, which would include but not limited to, lubrication, alignment, calibration, I/O checks, safety checks, troubleshooting
  • Optimize Process Equipment controls and operation through testing, adjustments, dry and production runs
  • Perform customer training with operations, cleaning, and maintenance personnel on site. Explain the function and performance of the equipment in classroom events and hands on at the machinery
  • Consult with other in-house Engineers, Sales Team, Installation Contractors, Supply Chain, Vendors, or other individuals to determine commissioning plans, resolve issues and coordinates execution times to coincide with required project schedule
  • Responsible for providing reports and results of system performance in order obtain client sign-off of the equipment performance (KPI’s)
  • Available for Commissioning calls after hours and on weekends
  • Responsible for up/downloads of software applications on Allen Bradley and Siemens PC + PLC hardware platforms
  • Participate in project closeout meetings to gain knowledge of "lessons learned"
  • Represent SPXFlow before customers and external stakeholders with professionalism, clear communication, and thorough knowledge of the product

In general, the Commissioning Engineer will work as part of a team and will collaborate closely with other team members and functional disciplines to ensure successful delivery of the project or bid scope.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting all systems hardware including mechanical, electrical and instrumentation.
  • Address problems with PLC and HMI software based on established design with the assistance of an Automation Engineer. Lead the implementation of design modifications in agreement with the Project Engineering Team and Change Control procedures.
  • Generate and implement written Commissioning Procedures, including Dry and Wet Test documentation and FAT/SAT/Acceptance test procedures.
  • Document system modifications and convey modification details back to Project Engineering through accurate Change Control of documentation updates.
  • Responsible for “Red Lining” system design drawings and operation manuals and forwarding to the Team for updating to “as-built” status.
  • Lead customer personnel training in the operation of the Pall System. Prepare learning materials for various Pall Systems Technologies, including the provision of Standard Service Products relating to the specific technology.
  • Employ background in Food & Beverage, including software experience.
  • Site work experience including installation, start-up, fault-finding, supervision, acceptance testing.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a multinational and interdisciplinary team of internal and external customers with a high degree of traveling, potentially on short notice (travel 60% - 70%).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and minimum three (3) years of commissioning experience is required
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings is required
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems and rotating equipment
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and to optimize or tune operating systems by adjustment of mechanical components and controls
  • Food, Dairy, Brewery or Beverage industry process engineering experience is a plus
  • Understanding of process technology, preferably in hygienic food processing
  • Must possess good English and Spanish language communication, verbal and written.
  • Must be customer focused
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills and work well in a team setting as well as independently
  • Must be able to cooperate and coordinate with contractors and customers to ensure optimal start-up of the equipment
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to function with minimal supervision
  • Advantageous to have working knowledge of MS Office products
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks, within a matrix environment
  • Ability and willingness to work and build relationships with colleagues across multiple functions and geographically diverse sites
  • Good analytical/problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Good initiative and ability to work independently
  • The ability to meet high performance standards in a team whilst maintaining ethics and integrity

In general, this is a field -based job with a considerable amount of time spent at Customer Job Sites. Ability to travel to other SPX locations and Fabrication Facilities is a requirement. Ability to travel globally up to approximately 60-70% of the time.
