Position Summary:
The Foster Care Supportive Visitation/In-Home Parent Education Program (FCSV) provides an intensive individualized parent-child visit approach that centers around the specific needs of the child(ren). The program allows for the parent to receive increased supportive services in preparation for, and after each visit, to assist in achieving reunification in a timely manner. The Bavolek Nurturing Parenting Program, is designed for the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. The program is designed to respond to the needs of families seeking to improve their parenting skills. The program instruction is based on proven psycho-educational and cognitive-behavioral approaches to learning. In this approach, awareness, understanding, acceptance and conscious replacement of old patterns of thought and behavior are replaced with newer, healthier ones. MDHHS requires utilizing the Nurturing Parent Skills for Families in Supervised Visitation curriculum or one of the treatment tertiary prevention curriculums from the Bavolek Nurturing Parent Programs.

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Receiving and accepting eligible referrals; then making contact with the referring worker
  • Participating and observing individualized parent/child sessions
  • Conducting home visits and explaining the program expectations
  • Transporting
  • Administering AAPI pre and post tests
  • Providing Parent Education utilizing the Nurturing Parent Education Curriculum
  • Completing necessary documentation, follow ups and reports
  • Participates in sessions, reviews and meetings
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to have a non-judgmental positive attitude and assessment toward families in crisis
  • Ability to communicate
  • Ability to work in partnership with other team members and/or service providers.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of brief, solution focused therapy and strength based solution focused intervention strategies
  • Knowledge of local resources
Recommended Employment Qualifications:
Education:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, sociology, psychology, family ecology, consumer/community services, family studies, family and/or child development, guidance/school counseling, counseling psychology or a related area required.

Experience:
  • A minimum of one year of field experience working with multi-problem families is required.
Wage Range: $31,000.00-$38,000.00 annually

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Proof of completion of a training program from a certified Nurturing Parenting Trainer that teaches the philosophy of Nurturing Parenting and how to implement and facilitate the Nurturing Parenting Program is required
