Bright Sky / Churches United for the Homeless (CU) provides shelter, support, and case management services for men, women, and families. Embracing Housing First principles, we strive to move guests from the shelter to stable housing as quickly as possible. Front desk staff at Bright Sky will assist in logging notes for case worker review. They will assist participants with questions and filling out documents as needed. Staff will work to de-escalate potential conflicts. The daytime front desk/service coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the front desk entrance area and assisting participants with basic daily needs. A front desk/service coordinator will be on-site at Bright Sky apartments 24 hours a day. The position may work alone, and shifts will be staffed by more than one individual.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with unloading the deliveries from Great Plains Food Bank, organize and oversee the Bright Sky Food Pantry.
  • Work with the Volunteer and the Development team from CUFH for donations and activities taking place.
  • Work with the Property Manager, HS Case Manager, and Support Services Director to ensure policies outlined are followed.
  • Monitor all persons entering and exiting Bright Sky apartments, including observation of the security camera system.
  • Allow access to the building to participants and their eligible visitors.
  • Answer general inquiry calls to the Bright Sky apartments property.
  • Take work orders from participants and staff when FHRA staff are not present.
  • Answer participant questions and addressing concerns.
  • Refer participants to appropriate community resources.
  • Assist the Bright Sky Housing Support Case Manager as needed.
  • Collect participant data needed for Apricot and Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) entry and providing data to Bright Sky and property manager.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings with service coordinator, Bright Sky, and property manager to discuss specific building and property concerns.

Successful candidates

  • Excellent customer service, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to individual struggles with homelessness, poverty, substance abuse, mental illness, and criminal records.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction, strength-based, and behavior-based models.
  • Preferred experience preferably in social service setting with people in crisis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.

Physical Demands

This job is not a sedentary desk job. It requires stairs, ability to stand 20-30 minutes at a time. Donations of items may require moving of tables and chairs, lifting and putting supplies, etc. away. This requires the ability to lift 20 pounds and bend or stand as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position.
