Job description

To perform difficult technical and administrative work planning, organizing, and directing a variety of public works activities including: building maintenance, cemetery operations and maintenance, and street operations and maintenance. Work also includes handling citizen issues and being on-call afterhours every-other-week.

This is a 40-hour per week position and reports to the Town Clerk.

Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards associated with departmental activities and related safety practices.

General knowledge of the equipment and materials used in the construction, maintenance and repair of buildings and related systems.

General knowledge of the principles and practices, laws and regulations relating to supervised functions.

Knowledge of cemetery records and map locations.

General knowledge of computer applications appropriate to the functional areas.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in outside environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold with snow and ice. Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping and feeling. Employee is subject to noise which may cause the employee to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Employee is subject to vibration, such as exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body and is also subject to workplace hazards including proximity to moving mechanical parts or exposure to chemicals, oils and fuels. Employee is subject to atmospheric conditions due to exposure to fumes, odors, dusts and oils. May work in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small areas of water lines, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
