JOBGeneral Responsibilities: The Student Success & Outreach Coordinator’s primary responsibility will be to provide wraparound services and supports for underserved students (i.e., those from economically disadvantaged families, minority males, etc.), to increase retention and persistence rates. This position will recruit prospective students, for curriculum and short-term training programs; assist students with navigating the enrollment process, including completion of the admissions application, placement testing, submission of the FAFSA, and navigation of the residency determination service (RDS); connect students with academic supports and other campus and community resources; ensure students receive effective academic advising, as their assigned advisor or in collaboration with their assigned faculty advisor; and assist students with career exploration and the development of a career plan. The Student Success & Outreach Coordinator will be based in Student Services, and work under the direction of the Director of Career and Transfer Advising Services.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Responsibilities and Duties of the Position: Collaborate with K-12 Partnerships and Marketing to develop an outreach and recruitment plan targeting underserved prospective students; Identify and implement best practices for persistence and retention of underserved students;Assist new and returning underserved students with completing the admissions process and financial aid, including the identification of alternate funding sources;Develop and implement a mentorship program for underserved students, that will pair students with a peer, employee, or community member;Assist students with setting goals and identifying, planning for, and overcoming potential obstacles in educational and career planning; build rapport and trust with students to support successful goal completion; monitor student progress toward goals; conduct follow up with students; offer advisement as needed; support instructors and program efforts to infuse instruction with persistence and success strategies;Support underserved students identified as at-risk, based on predictive analytics and instructor referrals;Collaborate with Director of Counseling to coordinate activities of the Minority Male Success Initiative (MMSI) Planning Team;Help students develop a sense of belonging and identification with the college through active campus engagement;Develop a student success plan with assigned advisees, including how to ensure a smooth transition to a senior institution for transfer students, and monitoring their progress throughout each term;Participate in professional development activities, networking with NCCCS colleagues and gathering information regarding best practices;Communicate directly with students via text and phone, concerning semester advising and registration, available school resources, and academic success strategies;Collaborate with various college departments and divisions, as well as outside partners, to ensure student success; Represent the college at community events and provide student access to local resources based on needs;Collaborate with Counseling to offer life skills (e.g., budgeting, stress management, health, etc.) workshops for students; Work a flexible schedule to include occasional evenings and weekends, to allow participation in recruitment and college events; and Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To be successful in this position, applicants should possess the following: Understanding of and appreciation for the community college philosophy;Strong oral and written communication skills;Ability to work autonomously, with minimal supervision;Ability to work with students individually and in groups; andProficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and student information systems (e.g., Colleague, Banner) or case management software.Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field required, counseling preferred. Minimum of two years working with and providing support to students, preferably in a post-secondary setting.
