The Boise Urban Garden School(BUGS) is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Garden to Table Educator/Culinary Instructor for the 2023 season. This 9-month position works approximately 25-30 hours per week. Duties include:
Managing produce coming out of the urban garden- Designing and leading cooking classes for kids, families, and adult groups
- Setting menus and recipes
- Assisting with lessons and activities related to the garden and kitchen
Instructs students in culinary classes. Ensures the well-being of participants enrolled in program. Works with supervisor to develop and implement an appropriate class curriculum. (70%)
Prepares material and supplies for class. Ensures equipment and supplies are in good working order and notifies supervisor when items need repair or replacement. Maintains rosters and attendance sheets for duration of class. (30%)

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
- 1 year of culinary experience.
- Working knowledge of effective instructional techniques
Ability To:
- Deal with children, adults, and coworkers in a friendly and tactful manner
- Work varied hours including evenings and weekends
- Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public, and other organizations
- Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
- Complete assignments in a timely fashion
- Understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance
- Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
- 2 years of experience working in a class setting with students of all ages from various cultural and economic backgrounds in a specific area such as dance, arts and crafts, mountain biking, martial arts, drama, ecology, etc. following an instructor-created curriculum
- Culinary certification
- Familiarity with garden-to-table cooking

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
