Position Summary: Global Health Research Associate

The Center for Global Health at Weill Cornell Medicine seeks an enthusiastic and creative research associate, with a minimum of Master’s-level training in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health or related field to join our team. Our work focuses on global health research in the areas of HIV and tuberculosis in Haiti, Africa, and India. Our work includes studies in translational research, clinical epidemiology, clinical trials, and implementation science. The research associate will report to Dr. Daniel Fitzgerald, Professor of Medicine and Director of the Weill Cornell Center for Global Health, and Dr. Lindsey Reif, Director of Training in the Center for Global Health. The associate will work with a team of research staff, students, fellows, and faculty in New York and at our international sites.

The associate will participate in two principal areas: 1) Research analysis in HIV and tuberculosis studies: responsible for preparing and analyzing large data sets, managing study databases and quality assurance activities, contributing to manuscript preparation and writing, 2) Training coordination and administration: Coordinate training of students and post-doctoral fellows in a new TB research advancement center which aims to foster young investigators in TB research. The associate will help organize seminars and symposia, the award of seed grants to trainees, and tracking of trainees’ progress and achievements.

Responsibilities

  • Database and data set management, including uploading and extracting data, cleaning large data sets, developing and performing statistical analyses with guidance and direction from Principal Investigators
  • Verify data integrity and ensure adherence to quality assurance protocols
  • Prepare reports for leadership that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and other relevant findings
  • Contribute to manuscripts and provide technical guidance and direction on research protocols and statistical methods
  • Assist with the submission of regulatory and IRB documents
  • Mentor and train students, research assistants and international colleagues in conjunction with Drs.

Fitzgerald and Reif.

  • Organize workshops and symposia related to the TB Center.
  • Track trainees’ progress and achievements
  • Update web page and communications about the TB Center

Requirements

  • Master's degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health or a relevant field of study
  • Skills in large-scale data manipulation and data visualization. Ideally 2-3 years of prior data management and analysis experience, including cleaning datasets, database management, and data quality projects
  • Experience working on detailed clinical research projects and with inferential statistics
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in R, Stata or SAS. If not proficient in R, willingness to learn R
  • Interest or experience studying infectious and chronic diseases in low-income settings
  • Strong interest or experience in global health, especially in resource limited settings
  • Position located in-person in NYC with travel to international sites (approximately 1-3 trips per year)
  • Very strong communication skills, with a proven track record of working both independently and in teams
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Needs work authorization for the US

Preferred qualifications

  • Research publication history (2 or more papers preferred, but abstracts/posters will be accepted)
  • Previous experience supervising junior staff or students on research projects
  • Interest in global health research
