Position Summary:
Implementation of the Head Start/GSRP program plan in designated childcare area. Manage and provide input on organizational processes of the site. Provide a quality experience that focuses on the YMCA core values: honest, respect, responsibility and caring as well as promoting school readiness by enhancing the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of enrolled children.
Essential Functions:
1. Be responsible for the general management of the classroom.
2. Develop, implement, and evaluate center policies according to LARA, YMCA, Head Start and GSRP guidelines.
3. Administer day-to-day operations, including being available to address parent, child, and staff issues.
4. Oversee child assessment and the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Curriculum and enrolled children.
5. Oversee staff and ensure overall care and supervision of children in the Head Start/GSRP program.
6. Utilize the Head Start and GSRP Performance Standards, NMCAA Head Start Program Plan, and Michigan Rules for Child Care Centers, Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-Kindergarten, and Program Procedure Manual to ensure programs requirements are being met.
7. Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment using the Creative Curriculum, School Readiness Goals, Early Learning Framework, and CLASS.
8. Provide clear behavioral expectations and use effective methods to prevent and redirect misbehavior using Conscious Discipline guidelines.
9. Utilize the Challenging Behavior Protocol to identify a course of support for challenging behaviors.
10. Use data and child outcomes from Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment reports. Teaching team and parent input are to be used for weekly lesson plans, IEPs, and individual and group planning.
Qualifications:
· Minimum Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
· Have prior work experience in a classroom with children ages 3-5 years, knowledge of Creative Curriculum and TS Gold.
· Ability to meet the State of Michigan and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check requirements.
· Ability to meet the State of Michigan and federal health requirements (medical clearance, mental wellness, and TB examination).
· Exhibit good moral character per the definition in Licensing Rules for Childcare Centers.
· Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and experience working with all age groups.
· Proficient with current technology, desktop office computers and mobile devices
· Required training within in 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Workplace Harassment, Internet Safety, CPR, AED, and First Aid
