Edman Company is a 3rd generation, family-owned wood chipping facility in Tacoma, WA seeking an individual to operate heavy equipment and assist with equipment and mill maintenance from 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM Monday through Friday at a rate of $20-25 per hour based on experience level. Training is available for applicants with limited/no experience.

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

· Operation of John Deere 844 loader to transport logs from log decks in yard to chipping mill.

· Unloading log truck loads with Log Stacker (Wagner L-80 and L-90)

· Maintaining organization of log yard – i.e. logs to proper decks, maintaining log deck integrity, rotating decks based on log delivery and production needs.

· Operation of Cat 519 Loader to control chipping operation and communicate to chip haulers.

· Operation of Husky Pedestal Loader to feed logs into the debarker.

· Daily preventative mill maintenance – greasing, visual inspection of mill & machines. Completion of repairs as needed. Includes use of manlift to access elevated areas (training available).

· Regular assistance on larger maintenance tasks including lifting/moving of heavy (50+lb) objects.

· Regular servicing of rolling stock (oil/fluid changes, filter changes, visual inspection).

· Daily changing of chipper knives using air-powered torque gun, carrying of knife sets on stairs.

· Regular grinding of chipper knives for re-use.

· Regular equipment fueling and fueling records keeping.

· Regular (weekly and monthly) preventative maintenance items including but not limited to: Checking fire extinguishers, checking hours on machines, cleaning tops of chip bin bunkers, inspecting and maintaining operability of hydraulic and lubrication systems.

· Regular documentation and communication to supervisors of completed tasks.

· Periodic basic computer use to weigh log trucks using proprietary scale ticket system.

Applicant must be detail and safety-oriented, willing and able to perform physically demanding manual labor and work outdoors in all weather, and willing to perform multiple functions throughout the shift. Opportunity for rate increases exist with demonstrated proficiency and retention of instruction, training in additional equipment, and continued exhibition of strong work ethic.
