Hotel Chief Engineer (Phoenix West, AZ)
Job description
The Chief Engineer will assist the General Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of the hotel’s maintenance department, including but not limited to service quality, operational efficiency, guest satisfaction, and brand standards compliance.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the maintenance team to achieve the goal and budget
- Work with GM to set direction and goals for the department
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train maintenance staff, providing supervision, professional development, scheduling, and performance evaluations
- Work with other department managers to ensure smooth operations of the hotel
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supervise maintenance operations for the hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventative maintenance, hotel rooms, A/C and heating units, ice machines, swimming pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, etc.
- Supervise assigned associates including hiring, termination, coaching, discipline, development, and evaluations
- Ensure all projects are completed on time and according to specifications
- Aid and instruct craftsmen in scheduling work, ordering material, and completing assignments by a specified date
- Meet with architects to discuss blueprints, contact contractors to submit bids for new construction, and meet with construction supervisors to discuss different phases of work
- Develop and maintain an ongoing maintenance program
- Scrupulously follow all safety standards; hold others accountable and to the same standards
- Maintain standards of quality guest service
- Achieve budgeted revenues and expenses and maximize profitability related to the guest services department
- Participate in the preparation of the annual hotel budget
- Increase the level of guest satisfaction by delivery of an exceptional product through employee development
- Promptly respond and resolve guest requests, complaints, or questions in a courteous and timely manner
- Ability to accurately use various office and accounting software
- Conduct and attend required meetings
- Step in to help associates when needed
- Perform other duties as required
Required Skills:
- Thorough understanding of the company’s policies, procedures, systems, and objectives
- Thorough understanding of all hotel departments and functions
- Thorough understanding of applicable Federal, state, and local health, safety, and legal regulations
- Ability to develop departmental policies and procedures that are effective and clear
- Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Ability to work weekends or holidays as needed
- Proficient office productivity software
Education and Experience:
- At least 2-3 years of maintenance management experience
- High school diploma
Physical Requirements:
- Stand for long periods of time
- Use your hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds at any given time
